"Desire" Appreciation Thread

Having heard both Prince's demo of the song as well as The Family's version, I can't figure out why P hasn't performed this song as he occasionally has chosen to do with "Mutiny" and "Nothing Compares 2 U". This song is hot and seems to fly under the radar. Viva "Desire"!!!

I do remember Desire from the Family album. I have'nt heard it since then or P's version. I know of one he has but I don't know about any others.

Still not have had a chance to hear it yet though.

"Desire" was always one of my fav tunes on The Family
I just love the whole feel of the song -- too cool.

I had Prince's version and didn't even know it until this thread made me do a search of my music! I liked the Family's version, but do like Prince singing it much better. He sounds so sweet.

Yep, P's version rocks. Don't like the family;s version very much.

At college, Desire was the *one* Prince song that my roommate was mad for. He couldn't get enough of it and went around singing it all the time.

is there any difference between the two versions?
i think they sound very similar
Paul Peterson practically matches Prince's vocals
(not that St. Paul is even close to as good a singer)
and the sound quality, of course, is much better on The Family
otherwise, from what i remember, both versions are exactly the same
"this is how it's supposed to be done -- now match it"

The P version (that I have anyway) is much longer...the sax gets pretty wild toward the end. ++ what I really like about the P version is that it feels rougher and less produced like the F version.

But whatever the analysis the track rocks.

"how long have we known each other...
...how little do we know.."

What a great song. It should have been a single. A dollop of Clare in the mix always helps make a Prince tune a classic.

nod

I noticed it becomes cooler with each listen
(hadn't listened to it often)
A little less sax wouldn't have been a bad idea imo , tho' smile

Uh, yeah. One of my favourite topics. Whenever there`s talk about the song, i must add that there`s a rehearsal take of the song. I have it on a boot called "Purple Rush". That take is a gem, absolutly. It has a differnet arrangement(different key and groove). It`s sort of a layout or rehearsal take, rather than a perfect production. Well, i love it. I share it with everybody who`s interested.
Love...thy will b done

P's version is the best! Definitely one of my favorite outtakes. His vocals add this layer of heartbreak...like extreme lust and sadness at the same time. And the sax on that version kills. Always thought it had kind of a weird Springsteen vibe.
