I want to compress Emancipation into one disc... I think a lot of the album, because it is 3 discs, is a lot of filler and no substance.

What standout tracks should I include when I burn Emancipation onto 1 CD? I want songs from all three discs but I'd like for the thing to be 12 tracks long. If someone can suggest 4 songs from each disc with possibly a few exceptions that'd be great.

OK, I know this is 16 tracks but this comp really works as an album with different moods and textures. The only thing I wish I could have added is The Plan between White Mansion and Soul Sanctuary but couldn't as the running time would have been over 80 Mins.

Everybody puts Jam of the Year at the beginning. Why? It's not that great a track and it certainly isn't 'the jam of the year'! And usually Emancipation at the end, simply because Prince put it at the end and has that explosion thing at the finish.

I actually made my own 1 disc version of Emancipation a few years ago.
Some of the tracks are edited down in length and others segue into each other.
I also used a bit of crowd noise to segue between Somebody's Somebody and
Jam Of The Year, as well as a tiny bit of The Plan inbetween In This Bed I
Scream and The Holy River. The whole CD lasts for exactly 60 minutes.

i used to like it but its novelty has worn off, and the last 3 or so minutes are filler to total the whole disc to 60 minutes.

I actually like dividing the album up into 2 discs - one for the fast and midtempo songs and one for the love songs that seem dedicated to Mayte that I call "The Wedding Album". I'll post my results if I can find the cd's lying around.

Trust me, this would have been the album of the year....
less Mayte, less baby talk...because who cares ...
more focus on the creative and legal battles...

Easy! You can use CDex. Rip all the three CDs, compress all the songs as MP3s (you can use a higher 256kb/s resolution because space won't be an issue this way!) and burn them on a CD-R! You can alternatively use a CD-RW disc if you think you've made a mistake and want to be sure your burn process will be a successful one. Enjoy!

I have to say, I'm quite a fan of the album, as I know it tends to get pissed on a fair bit. The only things I don't like about it (sorry for getting a little off topic here) are:

1) The production is so weak-assed. With a little mo' bottom and a more dynamic approach it would have been stellar. That said however, I personally think that along with TMBGITW that 'Betcha..' is the best produced track he's ever done. It drips gorgeousness regardless if you like the track itself.

2) Sex In The Summer
- sorry, leaves me cold. It's the equivalant of flat pop

3) Damned If Eye Do
- It's the hook, it just makes me shudder. Then he harps on with that lame-assed lyric about 'I'll not do it like Kevin' Horrible.

Sorry...had to get that off my chest!

I do like it though, honest.

I too have done away with all cover versions. I really like the covers of One of us and Betcha By Golly Wow, but theyd make nice B-Sides - what we want are originals.

Im not a big fan of emancipation, but looking at this album, if that was released in 1996, id have thought that was a really strong album. As it happens, I thought Emancipation simply sounded like a mess. I still would've had a problem with the production though.
