My dad was never really a fan of Prince. But last year,I noticed the 'Musicology' CD in his collection,so maybe he's had a change of heart

My father - who's one of the most stuck-in-his ways, 'macho' idiots I know - can't STAND Prince. Anyone who sings anything in falsetto is immediately 'gay' by his standards. So I used to take great pleasure in blasting the **** out of his music.

oh, and my mom and i went to see prince last year, 20 years after she took me to see him on the purple rain tour, and in the same city, to boot...and when it was over, she couldn't stop talking about how she was disappointed that 'purple rain' clocked in under 10 minutes.

My parents both hated him. They thought he was evil, and going to warp my impressionable young mind. I still listened to him anyway. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

My mom liked Prince! she took me to see Purple Rain and to my first Prince concert (PR Tour)!
Why do people dislike/hate Prince just because they think he is gay, and never give him a chance when it comes to his talent, yet other obviously gay artist such as Freddie Mercury, Elton John, and George Michael are seen as "Gods" to some people.Which they are, but, not Prince???

I would bet money that neither of my parents would be able to name a single song by Prince. When it comes to music their taste & their lack of knowledge is beyond lame...thankfully I was able to overcome the overwhelming obstacle of them having absolutely no taste in good music to become a Prince fan. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

My parents wouldn't allow me to watch his movies or videos, but they knew that music was sacred to me, and that they couldn't stop me for listening to him. My dad calls him "That Little Purple Punk", and my mom calls him Princess! She likes his music now though. She's always stealing my CD's. [Edited 8/16/05 0:37am] I'm back!!!!!!!

I really got into Prince's music seriously through my Dad. He is a big time fan of jazz, but when we were in the car or when he was working out at home, he'd have a local R&B station playing. I heard Controversy for the first time while driving around with him, and heard DMSR the first time from the other room while he was working out. Both songs impressed me instantly.
My dad also owned a video store and took me to a special screening of Purple Rain held for video store owners. The funny thing is, my dad doesn't like Prince. Even worse, he thinks the guy I admired since way back when was Michael Jackson, not Prince. He gets that part confused.

My parents think I'm crazy. Yeah, but who cares. They only like Little Red Corvette and 1999. I just shake my head and walk away. Everytime I comb my hair

I remember my dad ripping several prince posters off my wall when he got mad at me. He also stomped the shit out of my sign"o' the times vhs. He called him a faggot a lot too. But he has changed a lot over the years, he even went to the Jam of the concert when it came to town. He has much respect for prince these days. My mom is almost sixty and loves Prince. She went to Jam of the year and the musicology shows. She would have gone to ONA but she was out of town.

Jesus Christ! Is your dad Joe Jackson???! Ha ha, no not quite. He has mellowed over the last 10-12 years. That was back when I was teenager. So it was really cool to watch in total awe when he watched Prince's guitar solo on the hall of fame show. j/k

People I know who ridicule Prince today still says his 80s stuff was good. It was the name change, and the lame hip hop attempts in the 90s that made him "irrelevant" to them, not because they think he's gay. If he were to continue making Purple Rain'ish music, I think he would still be seen as a "god". by the way... my parents, who are chinese, has no opinion on Prince. well at least they never said anything except "why do you buy all his records? is he really that good?". they didn't say anything about the Lovesexy album cover either Good morning Ladies & Gentlemen,

My mom used to sometimes make remarks on his appearance when I was watching his videos on VCR, but then again she used to buy me clothes from the girl's department because they fit me better and I always looked sort of wrong in the typical teenaged boys' clothes they were selling back in the day in the small town I was living. I think she mostly enjoyed his music, but not the screaming or the funk numbers.
When she was visiting my place a couple of weeks ago I was playing the ONA piano album in the PA (yes, I have PA in my home instead of hi-fi) she really loved "A Case Of U". So I played it again for her. Having said that, I think she far prefers Prince's music these days than being forced to listen to my music. Dunno about my Dad. He probably doesn't even know really who Prince is. That's okay, cause I don't even really know who he is.

My Mother liked Prince and actually got to see him live before I did. My father on the other hand once heard me listening to "Jack U Off" and told me I don't want you buying any more music like that. I remember saying to myself "Try and stop me". There was also another time that he was yelling at me to clean my room as I was listening to "The Beautiful Ones"; he yelled "And shut that screaming bitch up". Ohhhhh this means war! In my teenage rebellion, from that day forward, a bond was pretty much formed with Prince; and I've been listening ever since My name is Prince and I want your money

Dad hated him, but wasn't into music at all anyway. Mum loved Purple Rain and I took her to see him at Wembley Stadium (her first rock concert - she's into classical), and she loved it and cried at least once. She still likes him and I regularly play and show her stuff.
