According to one of M. Jackson's recent biographies, everything went well in the planning of the We R The World project. The ONLY glitch, according to the writer, was that Prince and Michael were supposed 2 sing 2gether; Prince didn't show up.

The group of stars recorded until 7.30am from the previous night, after the American Music awards. Prince phoned at 6am and asked to lay down a guitar line for the song. Quincy Jones told him it was 2 late.
