This will not be popular but I think 0+> by a landslide. From start to finish it is greatness. So many different styles mixed into one great cd. Lovesexy is genuinely good, but I think it is considered a bit to elite. Im not going to go track by track, but 0+> is my go-to CD when everything else sounds average. Lovesexy pretty much takes this one. While is a great album, alot of time it does tend to drag on a little bit, along with sounding kinda dated. Also, songs like "Love 2 the 9s" and alot more could have been alot better if Tony M. weren't all over them.
So, Lovesexy gets my vote. Not only because it's a tighter album, but the accompanying tour to go along with it hasn't been matched since. Ooh, little darlin' if you're

This one is pretty much apples and oranges. Lovesexy is a smoother journey, designed in Prince's mind as a uplifting, spiritual ride. It is peaceful and calm and flows fairly well even though, as good as it is, I still thought it was a letdown from Sign O The Times, the ultimate journey album. Other than Alphabet St., it is devoid of radio pandering singles, as P. was completely willing to sacrifice commericiality for spirituality. It's a gospel album, pure and simple, which I like and respect but never grew to love.
Symbol is chaotic and paranoid and shows an artist much less at peace with himself and the world. Whatever statement P is trying to make is lost in a muddled soap opera about a Middle Eastern, underage Princess that Prince, or some character he is playing, has the hots for. It is an album that is filled with distractions (Kirstie Alley?) and it does not connect at all. Yet there are some absolutely brilliant songs on the album, 7, 2 the 9's, Damn U, And God Created Woman among them, that represent his best 90's work. It's much more of a hodgepodge of styles and alternates from corny (anytime Tony M raps) to brilliant from song to song, moment to moment. Neither achieved, in my mind, what he set out to achieve but both are filled with wonderful moments. My contention is that Lovesexy is a better album but Symbol has a better collection of songs. All good things they say never last...

I'll take the symbol album. Its 2/3 of a great album which is better than most of Prince's output since SOTT.

This is tough. I think Symbol suffers from filler and kitsch, while Lovesexy has a directness to it that just solidifies its place in the Prince ouevre as being pivotal. I don't get that feeling with Symbol.
But, I think Symbol is a GREAT Prince album because of its diversity. Prince was making a statement with that album, too. It represents his breadth as an artist even better than Lovesexy, and a lot of that kitsch actually is quite entertaining. It just seems like it's taking Prince twice as long to say, "I'm still killer" in that album than it did in the former. So, I'm going to punt and say... Parade. ...

Both are awesome albums, but wins this one. Well, I don't think one is better than another since they're so different, but symbol is my second fav P album Don't hurt me, I'm a newb. I'm supposed to be stupid.

Lovesexy probably, but I've been listening to a lot recently, it was my first album (released as a new release), so I always have a soft spot for it.
It's very well crafted too, it has a great band-sound, like on Damn U or Love 2 The 9s, the NPG was great then (minus Tony M. - but I don't mind his rap on MNIP), and I think it benefits from NOT having Rosie, but I would like to hear it with her on. Lovesexy, I don't listen to much these days, Dance On, Lovesexy, and the b-sides, came on the other day on the mp3 player, but everything else isn't on my radar at the moment.

lovesexy was so different and new at the time.
symbol is just a mess with all those rappers and those outfits...prince was kinda trying 2 b young and edgy again but in a silly way. but i love that album 2!

This is bizarre, but true. That album didn't honestly sound dated at all for many many years and all of a sudden and especially D&P became the most dated sounding albums of his. It's a strange change of climate, one could easily say "1999" is the most dated one, but there's just something about that "Thunder" rhythm that sounds unbearable these days. As for the tracks on very few of them I can listen to without cringing now. Probably "I Wanna Melt With U" is the one I have the least problems listening to, and it never exactly was a favourite of mine.

i find lovesexy to be much more complete whereas had that damn Kristie Allie and that story about an underage virgin princess gave me the willies. he's a grown man for chrissakes and that shit ain't cute! so to recap, no kristie allie + no underage virgin princess makes lovesexy the better album. plus i like the fact the lovesexy isn't tracked.

I'm partial to Lovesexy. I saw him tour in Germany during this period (as well as seeing his SOTT tour). I thought everything from Batman on through the 90s was WEAK, especially trying to incorporate hip hop into his music.
For me, I felt his guitar playing wasn't as prominent as his 80s music.

I generally hate the symbol album besides a few tracks. 7, and God Created Woman, and Sexy MF save it from being a total disaster imo. It's totally self-indulgent and too long. It's one of the few albums that never grew on me over the years...I didn't like it then and don't now.
Lovesexy, on the other hand, has been played on a regular basis since I bought it in 1988. It's not his best...but, like most of his 80s output, its totally original and filled with great songs that sound less dated than most of his 90s stuff. So...hmmm...let's see...which one should it be...hmmm... L O V E S E X Y !!!!!

i think that the symbal album is better because its different and is not the same throughout. Do people think that "3 chains of gold" would have made a great last track?

For me, I felt his guitar playing wasn't as prominent as his 80s music. The period between 93-96 contains alot of outstanding guitar work. Even songs songs on Come were based around original guitar tracks. This was probably his best 'guitar period'.
