give it up for NEW POSITION!

I don't know what you wanna give up for this jam, but I love it so much; the beat, the bass, the damn cowbells, the fast pace, the vocals, the p.u.s.s.y., the backing vox, the way it segues out of one song and into another, the fact Prince recorded the drum tracks for these three songs in one take, the way it jumps and bounces outa your stereo and into your head.

How I wish there was an extended version of it. I know there isn't. Maybe another version, as we know Prince tinkered with Little Girl Wendy's Parade and I Wonder U's instrumentation, vocals and titles before he decided it was right. But DAMN! This joint is HAWT!

There are times I just put it on repeat! I have that with a few Prince tracks. Had it with Tamborine. Housequake. Databank (Prince's version with The Revolution). The last time I was happy with a Prince beat was Life Of The Party, which is not half as bad as people make out on this board. But that is another thread.

New Position y'all!

Honey, we been 2gether
Honey, 4 2 long
Honey, we got 2 make it better
Honey, ‘fore we go wrong

Got 2 try a new position, yeah
Somethin' that'll make it all right, uh
New position, yeah
Let's go fishin' in the river, the river of life

Honey, we can't last, uh (We can't last)
Without a shot o' new spunk, huh
Honey, forget your past (Forget your past)
U got 2 try my new funk

U got 2 try a new position, yeah
Somethin' that'll make it all right
Oh, a new position, yeah, yeah
Let's go fishin' in the river, the river of life

Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah!
Come on and let me do ya
Come on and let me do ya, do ya
Come on and let me do ya
I wanna, I wanna do ya, do ya
Honey, I can make U happy (I can make U H. A. P. P. Y.)
Ooh, I can make it real good (So good)
Honey, I won't be your pappy (P. U. S. S. Y.)
But I'll do ya, I'll do ya, do ya, do ya, like a...
Do ya, do ya like a good man should
I'll do ya, do ya like a good man should
Honey, let's try a new position
Aaahh!

I adore this track! Parade doesn't set one
single foot wrong for the first 15 minutes

The trio of songs it kicks of with are the
most bouncy well flowing songs he ever put
to tape.

I love that "trilogy" that the album opens
up with. And "New Position" is it's sparse
centerpiece. Phenomenal in it's simplicity
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I had been a fan of Purple Rain and the singles that were big in Europe before that (Little Red Corvette, mainly, but also 1999). I was still impressionable and in awe of my older sister (who hipped me to The Eurythmics, The Cure and Laurie Anderson, to name a few) and she told me Purple Rain's follow up was lame, except the single. So I did not bother with Around The World In A Day.

Until Kiss was released. I got the single, heard the b-side, begged for the album and ever since playing Parade in the confines of my room, I have never been the same when it comes to single worship. Prince awed me musically, as he did with the entire musicla world back in that day. Couldn't do anything wrong.

From that moment I started collecting. 12"s. Albums. Then after Sign The Times came boots and live concerts... Sigh...

There is an unofficial remix of the song on Disconet records. It is really good! Disconet was a club DJ remix series in the 70's and 80's, kinda like Ultimix.
Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

NEW POSITION makes me H.A.P.P.Y.

(I wish it were longer, too.)
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Well, that ties in nicely with your tagline... serve it up, Frankie.

I loved it when someone pointed out the soft spoken intro to Le Grind...

Considered how overproduced his songs would become later, it was really nice back in the day when he tried to do a lot with a little. This song was definitely one of his better "bang a couple of instruments together and make a jammy jam" tunes. The fact that he actually took stuff OUT of "Kiss" and didn't overstuff it made the song the classic that it was.

Sometimes, the vox and a little music was enough. It is ironic that he toured this very minimalist album with the largest extended band in recent history.

You mean 'lifeless'? I always thought it funny how he preached how radio sucked these days and how people should play instruments instead of computers and then turn out bull like The Slaughterhouse and The Chocolate Invasion.

What a puppycock.

What he said about radio is basically that they play the same stuff over and over. And there's still a lot of real instruments on those two albums. And I think he meant that they gotta play them live on stage.

When I read that in DMSR I was blown away. The fact that he laid down the drums for those opening three songs in one take speaks to his brilliance. The bassline on New Position is unbelievable and the pacing is damn good too. He covers so much ground musically during the opening of the Parade album. Very impressive track. thumbs up!

In Europe he also said they did not play fonky music, which I took as 'whine, whine, whine, they won't play my boring music' and I remember him saying somewhere that everyone could just whip out a song sitting at home, never having touched an instrument and that artistry was being lost that way.

Then again, ever since he became talkative, he said so much I wish he would just revert back to silence (3121, anyone) and just dazzle us again with some REAL music that also can be played on regular radion, not only on Kingdom FM.

This is one of P's finest moments on wax. I also liked the effect he used in this song where it sounds like the record skips (you have to listen very closely to it). Very funky tune...ask Biz.

I love the song also it does seem like its too short though. The only other song I can thing of where it sounds like a explosion all the way from the beginning as far as just pure energy is Neon Telephone. I love the way that song just bounces all the way through. Seems as though I am destined to never have a complete copy of it though. sad
