POP QUIZ: Who is playing the piano solo on Dorothy Parker (One Night Alone...The Afterparty)?

So...driving back to Didsbury one night I listen to '...The Afterparty' cranked up high and I wonder....who IS playing that piano solo? It's got some brazilian in there, but its also got some unmistakably Prince modulation.
Come on everybody...who is it?
Prince or Renato Neto? eek

id hazard a guess at Renato.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

I've wondered that also.

I think it's Prince. It sounds too good to be Renato. If you listen to One Nite Alone Live and watch the DVD, Renato has never put together a solo that good and that funky.

Renato is a by far better pianist than Prince will ever be.
im not saying that Prince isnt good,he is ok, but Renato is better.

Renato is fantastic and versatile, AND can play "Princely Modulations", but there's a distinctive style in Prince's playing, as there should be with every musician, and unfortunately, is rare. Renato has his own style as well, and it's perfect in Prince's music, in particular, with Prince's band.

Don't ever under-estimate Prince's ability in Jazz keys, particularly in the funky fusion type of stuff... he was doing that when he was a kid.

Peace.

have you heard the european aftershows from that tour?

nighttown opening instrumentals, and the stuff he did

in Paris?

there was so much jizz dribbling down my legs I had to

change my shoes twice

nod

regardless of who's doing the solo on the album, Renato
is a true master and imo the best keysman he ever had!!
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I was at the show & it was Renato. Prince was showing him the chords to BODP during the rehearsal that us NPG er's were treated to before the main show that night, getting him ready for the afterset. Then at HOB Prince basically started the song off standing nxt.to Renato reminding him of the chord progression then Renato took the solo from there, it was awesome. And yes Renato is much better technically then Princey on key's.

Hell, Prince is one of the premiere piano players. Look at the Lovesexy stuff and tell me the guy doesn't kick ass.

The intro to Condition Of The Heart, the piano at the beginning of Under The Cherry Moon. Amazing.
All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

I stand corrected. I had never heard Renato put together a solo that good.

I was about to guess Patrice Rushen.

In his early days P loved to play jazz on piano and he is really into Vince Guaradi.

This is wishful thinking #35 but can you imagine Dr. Fink and Renato all playing keys in P's band?
