Funky fresh! wink

Q, all these sayings take me back to the days when people were sporing Kangoos and Addidas with Dookie Chains. Ahhh the 80's.

I'm gettin' out my Gazelles glasses and my coonskin hat right now!

The "she" being referred to, is Shockadelica, the name of the girl - Unless people think otherwise, I always took it that way myself.

Then why does the extended version make a point of defining Shockadelica as "a feeling, the lonely cold...". In this context, I don't think Shockadelica is suppossed to be the name of a girl, but a Princely name for a feeling (much like Lovesexy).

Not "most definately" at all, he never made any such admission. He was questioned once on the subject, in the 1997 Yahoo interview quoted above, and said "your friend is very wise", which although a positive affirmation, could be taken a number of ways - from "That is correct, that was the direct inspiration for Camille", to "Yeah, that's where I pinched the name from", to "I don't have a fucking clue what you're on about, but ain't that a nice co-ink-i-dink".

To me, it sure seems like an admission that Barbin is the basis for the character.

Yet, he has erections (Rockhard) and is in a heterosexual relationship with a woman (IIWYGF).

True. But a hermaphrodite can get an erection, can't they? If not, they certainly can in Prince's fantasy world.

I don't think that Camille is a true physical hermaphrodite, but a spiritual one. Prince himself isn't PHYSICALLY a hermaphrodite, but the character of Camille is intended to be an extension of his feelings of being both male and female. It is just a deeper exploration of his androgyny.

Agreed, agreed, agreed - Everything else you said has been pontificated on already.

I will come back to the point (I know we're discussing something so trivial in way more depth that it probably deserves) - Camille is male, physically, with an androgynous soul.

It is the culmination of Prince's spiritual/sexual/relationship musings and themes expressed since way back when, and certainly developed from 1999 - The Dream Factory.

Looks like we agree a lot more than it originally appeared. I don't know if Camille is suppossed to be physically male, or a hermaphrodite, or if the physical is really even relevant. Since Camille is an expression of Prince's pyche, and only exists outside of his head on record, is his/her sex even really defined? Does Camille really have a sex, per se? Camille is referred to as a male, but is also referred to as female at least once (I know this is debatable, but I certainly think this is the case. It is also possible that Prince originally intended to make the Camille character female, and then later changed his mind). To me, the androgyny of the character is clearly the point, so it doesn't really matter if Prince intended for him/her to be "male with an adrogynous soul" or an out and out hermaphrodite. If Barbin is the basis for the character (which I'm convinced is the case), then it still works, since we are talking about a sort of mental and spiritual hermaphrodism, not a physical one.

Ultimately, Camille is fabulous, and was one of the most awsome shit-hot projects/eras Prince ever created.

On this, we agree 100%
