"Mayte, seven months pregnant, is rushed to a hospital after experiencing sharp pains. At the hospital, the doctors checked her and ran test. By then, her pains had subsided and the doctors gave her good news that she had just been in false labour. However, later in the month (September), Prince and Mayte were advised by physicians that her pregnancy was not proceeding as expected and that their baby was likely to have birth defects." The child was born on October 16 1996 and died on October 23 1996. Looks like there were a few weeks of warning prior to the birth. This is based on the bullshigitty that she got pregnant on their wedding night. She was more than 7 months along in September. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What did David Spade say? I didn't know anything about this SNL appearance that was cancelled. Can anyone fill in the details. thanks "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

I know she is very gossipy and tabloidy - but the fact is, Mayte would have had an ultrasound scan which would have revealed the problem way ahead of the birth. well, I'm no ob\gyn or anything but...I do not believe an ultrasound would have revealed this problem. an ultrasound is given at like 10 weeks and then again around 20 weeks (give or take a week or 2) if the baby's head (and all other parts)was relatively average size and shape..there would be no cause for further tests. If the heart beat is good, and mom's pee isn't revealing anything..and mom's age (young) and health (good) aren't qualifying factors for further testing then...none would be done. It sure didn't seem as if they had any idea that there was anything wrong. I don't have a clue as to the actual circumstances of P and Mayte, but didn't Mayte have problems in the pg? I thought she had some problems and had to go to an emergency room while pg. The hospital would have certainly conducted an ultrasound if there were any problems in the pg. Also, with the huge deformities that I hear is part of the the syndrome, I would imagine the skull deformities if nothing else would show up on the sonogram. I would even imagine that the baby's head was measuring smaller than normal and would have caused some concern by the 20th week u/s. The point is earlier in this thread that poster was touting how accurate Per Nilsen's "Vault" is with regard to this situation. The fact of the matter is they are going on the info Prince put out in the press. And Prince has been know to tell a fib or two. . [Edited 8/9/05 17:15pm] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

[Edited 8/9/05 17:15pm] I understand the point you are trying to make but when I stated, "Per Nilsen's documentation is considered to be of the highest caliber", I meant he is a hell of a researcher. I readily admit that the things that I have read created a great deal of confusion/concern in regards to Prince's behavior. I respect "The Vault" as a resource but I wouldn't say that I subscribe to everything in it without questions of my own. Hence the need for this thread. Just wanted to clarify my position.

I don't think it really means anything. It's just an expression of joy and delight. This phrase was commonly used in the early 70s,when the Stylistics recorded their version.
