does prince earn a place next to mozart and beethoven? the question speaks for itself i think. Me and a friend were talking about this the other day (in between two tests at school) and we both came to the conclusion that Prince is (one of) the most significant and important artist(s) of last century and therefore can have his statue placed next to mozarts and beethovens. what do u think? I'm really curious how you see prince in the entire history of music.
greetz Kev1n It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!

Although I agree that Prince is extremely talented and important in the span of music, Beethoven and Mozart have earned their places (which are rightfully theirs) over a century or two. In time, perhaps Prince will be recognized for the artist he is, but it will take many MANY years. And probably not until after he's dead.
It sucks, but that's the way it is. I mean, like, where is the sun?

It sucks, but that's the way it is. - I agree with you. Prince is extremely talented, but sometimes I think he is kind of ´superficial´ when compared to composers like Bach, for example. Classical music is very ´serious´ and complex, and it´s more than chants, grooves and catchy choruses. But I think Prince has the mind of a genius, I just think he could use it in a better way sometimes. Unfortunately, we wont be able to see...

I think this question can only be properly answered a couple of hundred years from now. You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.

You guys are really trippin. Who says that Mozart etc are the epitome? Only to those who base their standards on that classical aesthetic/philosophy. So what if Prince doesnt "earn a place next to Mozart and Beethoven" in the history of music?( thats the funny part). I would rather have Prince next to Hendrix, Geoge Clinton, JB, The Rolling Stones etc..I mean I could listen to Venus DeMilo and the beginnig of Conditon of the Heart for days...but really now, is that the type of music we want Princ e to soley concentrate on? I mean like he said " I can do U@ but they will not do Housequake". Prince proved he could write classical type ifhe studied it and concentrated on it. Could Mozart have made Housequake, Lets Go Crazy or Days of Wild? Hmmph, [This message was edited Sat Jun 1 16:52:03 PDT 2002 by rdhull] "Climb in my fur."

although I would think P would be flatterd, he would flat out opposse the idea, if it ever came up. With P's beliefs, it would be a sure sign of Idol Worship, and that is totally against our bible based teachings. See it or call it what you want, "Thanks, but no Thanks". Mark my words. Mark 'em.

Well, in my world Prince is above Mozart and Beethoven, so, who's right anyway...
This coming from a guy who studied classical piano for 15 years.

Prince is at the head of the class on this one (for me anyway). I think if Mozart or Beethoven or any other classical composers where alive today they too would be in awe of Prince's cosmic and seemingly limitless talent and would not be able to deny his rightful place in music history as the greatest singer/songwriter etc. of all time.

Ok, I think this question is a bit unfair... Maybe it should read something like; If P were born in the same era at Bethoven and Mozart would he have eclipsed their talent.
The times were so different then, would P have been the classical Master of all times, introduced Funk long before it was even known? What would Mozart or Bethoven been like if they were born in our era? Tough question... No doubt P is truly the best musician, artist, writer in MY eyes, and beats all the others who are and have been
