Fave Linn Drum pattern Some love it's cold harsh sound like myself, others prefer the live/warmer stuff. I'm partial to both, but got a special place for this baby!
For my money, I'd say the best one he came up with was 'The Dance Electric'. I remember the day I heard that back in '86, and it gave me goosebumps. I thought it was so awesome, I used to play it so damned loud. It still gets me goin' today - I love it. So...what's yours?

I love the Linn drum sound.
The first one that comes to mind is "The Beautiful Ones".....and also that weird backwards tape of the girl crying in the Purple Rain movie. I guess I like the slow, mysterious beats

Something about the beat for "Le Grind" will drive me crazy on occasion. That and "Baby, I'm a Star," "America," and "New Position." Ooh, little darlin' if you're

Ah! The Linn. I had the opportunity to work with it just once, its such an awesome instrument, and in my case it wasn`t even the customized version that Prince and few other people have. The sound is so....phat ! That sucker has its own groove, almost mystical.
My award for the ultimate mother of all Linn beats by Prince goes to.... *****777 - 9311***** Love...thy will b done

"Private Joy". I'm not sure even if it is the LM-1 or even an earlier prototype. The funny thing is the Linn sounds even more funkier, edgier on some of the bootleg tracks with reduced sound quality - as on "The Dance Electric". I've never heard any other snare sound survive that kind of frequency reduction and still sound as powerful. It's a magic sound.

Co-sign , I still can´t get enough of the Dance Electric after so many years...it stil´l sounds exciting everytime I listen to it. She ´s Always In My Hair and Sex Shooter also have that special something. And Something In The Water. Live drums are cool and necessary sometimes, but the LM1 is an instrument of its own in the Prince universe, it´s like a lost bandmember. It´s not about LM1 or live drums, it´s about the combination. Computer Blue, especially the longer version, is also a good example. And Dorothy Parker..... And 7779311.... Going back on memory lane... " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Is it true that there are only a few left and that they´re really hard to get and expensive ?
How does the customized version differ from the original version ? " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

How does the customized version differ from the original version ? I think so. If I remember rightly, Paisleypark4 had/has one - or has worked with one extensively. I know a handful of the more musically talented Orgers amongst us have managed to obtain them in the past.

I heard those things were 5 grand when they came out. Prince has at least 2 of them 4 sure. As far as a customized 1 I've never heard of those, I just read that Prince would seriously detune some of the presets or run the Linn through his guitar effects pedals 2 get the sounds he did. Like running the hi-hats through the flanger pedal in "Sex Shooter".

I would. Others had used it before, but nobody (that I'm aware of) was as funky or creative with it as Prince If there was a CD with just his Linn beats on it (no other instruments or voices), I'd be enjoying that

As someone has already said, each and every one of them. Prince & the Linn drum are inextricably linked. And - as soon as you hear the first beat - you know you're in for a ride. I love the way Prince made it his instrument.
The first song that came to mind, though, was 'Let's Pretend We're Married' but I've got to give props to 'The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker'. And I don't know how many times I've been mesmerised by that opening to 'Automatic' - I wish it would go on & on & on...
