"Manic Monday" and "1999"

You know, I knew that Prince wrote the song "Manic Monday" under the nom de plume of "christopher," but I never noticed how much the melody sung in the verse sounds so much like that of "1999." I was listening to the song this morning and "1999" immediately popped into my head. Of course, they're in different keys, but sound very similar. Anybody else catch this?

I've always thought exactly the same thing, I'd love to hear a mashed up version of the two tracks I bet it would sound pretty cool. biggrin

They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Well spotted. This has been documented and mentioned in one of the biographies. It is the same melody.

Yeah, the melody and chord progression for the verses (not chorus) of 1999 and
Manic Monday are the same (though they are in different keys).

As soon as Manic Monday was released, the music press noted the resemblance.

I thought he composed Manic Monday around the time he composed 1999.
