Prince Mentions In Movies I was thinking about how many Prince references there are in movies. Here are a few, add some that I might have missed! (NOT counting movies that Prince made himself!)
The Last Boy Scout - Damon Wayans asks Bruce Willis what his daughter likes, and Bruce replies "She likes Prince" to which Damon does a slight imitation of Prince. There is also a girl dancing to Gett Off on stage. Love Jones - Larenz Tate buys Nia Long a CD, and then he teases her by saying that he's gonna get her started on Prince and that Prince releases a CD every week. Romeo Must Die - Anthony Anderson is watching Aaliyah and sees a Purple Rain poster in her bedroom to which he does a slight imitation of Prince (an "OWWOOOWAH"). The Breakfast Club - This one is actually not a "mention", but Ally Sheedy holds up the album sleeve to 1999. Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back - OK, this one is actually in honor of The Time, but they do mention Purple Rain by name. Any more to add??

Just thought of one more:
The Goonies - Again, not a "mention" exactly, but Corey Feldman wears a Purple Rain shirt throughout the whole movie.

Shaun of the Dead
I think the most recent was in Shaun of the Dead. If you haven't seen this zombie movie yet, GET it!! It's the most entertaining zombie movie I've seen. As for the Prince reference, the lead character has a vinyl album collection and he, along with his friend, were throwing them at the zombies. As they were sorting them out, the other friend was going through Prince's albums asking if they should throw it. He names Sign O' the Times? "No!!", Purple Rain? "No!!", Batman Soundtrack? "Toss it!!" (I'm paraphrasing it, but it's so hilarious!!) "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."
"We had fun, didn't we?" -Prince (1958-2016) 4ever in my life

Don't forget that whole Pretty Woman thing...
And then Sandra Bernhard's 'Without You I'm Nothing'. You'll have to search for this one on video, but the whole climax is about Prince! Didn't see that comin'! [Edited 7/29/05 18:46pm]

I saw this documentary called "Rock School" (not to be confused with School of Rock, starring Jack Black), and it was about an actual School in Philadelphia which teaches kids how to ROCK!
In one of the scenes, the founder/teacher, Paul Green insists that the kids do NOT cover Purple Rain as part of their repertoire. He's like, "No, Purple Rain, dammit! NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Can't leave out the Spike Lee joints.
Do The Right Thing - There's a conversation between Mookie and Pino where Mookie points out to Pino that he's a Prince fan, and starts calling him a "Prince freak! Prince freak!" to shut him up. And the radio DJ, Mr. Senor Love Daddy does a roll call of major black artists and Prince is among them. Girl 6 - Well, the whole film's based on his music, so there's not much to say there. Ooh, little darlin' if you're

Unbreakable - Bruce willis's asks his wife what was her fav song and she replies soft and wet.
Big Bully - Rick Moranis is moving to minnesota (I don't know if the city was Minneapolis.) with his son. His son said he didn't want to move to a crappy place like minnesota. Moranis replied, come on Prince lives here and his son gave him a "who cares about Prince" look.

Although not a movie, I thought I'd mention it all the same - David Duchovny mentions Purple Rain in one episode:
"Great album... deeply flawed movie though" - Fox Mulder, The X-Files

Unbreakable
When Bruce Willis' character asks a woman: "What's you favorite song" and she replies the deadly lame "Soft and Wet by The Artist Formerly Known As Prince" WTF? This is from the period where people were so confused that they called every prince song from no matter what era songs by "TAFKAP" and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Let's not forget the scene in "Barbershop 2" where Prince is mentioned as an example of some of the Black folks who are just as crazy as White folks. But then Cedric The Entertainer's character's like "Don't put Prince in there with us, he's half-Cherokee or something".
Interestingly enough, this was brought up on that Tavis Smiley interview last year. Tavis just wanted Prince's reaction to that. Prince just had a laugh about it because indeed it was kinda funny. He said "There's a debate going on now about my Grandmother's side now". NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Almost completely off topic, did anyone see the most recent episode of "Hooking Up" on ABC, a reality show following some women around for their quest to find a good man, mainly via the internet? It comes on on Thursdays at 9 pm EDT, but the one this past week had two Prince reference. The first was with this guy singing "Kiss" karaoke-style, doing a predictably awful job with it. And the second was on a completely different date with a different couple in some bar, in the background (as the guy was getting put on notice that until he was ready to commit he was no longer getting any ass! ) you could clearly hear "When Doves Cry". That's about the only way ya get to hear Prince on TV these days. LOL!

In a real early episode of the Cosby Show "I Wanna Be You Lover" was played on the radio while Theo and I think Rudy(?) were in the kitchen.
Can't remember if they made any comment about it though. I last saw that ep over 10 years ago! -----------------------------------------------
