keep yourself occupied by immersing yourself in someone else's music.

I agree, it really helps, and there are some good Prince inspired music out there. Here's a few I strongly recommend...

John Legend: Get Lifted (more of Stevie Wonderesque talent, but beautiful. Just let the album play, it will take you places.)

Common: Be (like John Legend, wonderful album to dive into)

Kanye West: Late Registration (released on 08/30, so go and get a copy)

Baby Face: Grown and Sexy (nice to have in the rotation)

Lastly, try to find some extended versions to some of your favorite Prince jams. Currently I'm searching for extended versions and different versions of Computer Blue. A piano version of this song would be the ultimate find, like the one from the movie.

I started listening to "Pet Sounds" the sessions... and the new Gorillaz album... and the original "Superman Soundtrack"...

but of course I keep trying to search out new bootlegs and dvd's of prince. It always fills the gaps!

If you can't get into another artist or just need that fix, then do what most can do successfully : pick a part of his career you have not really explored fully in a while and dig. Tell yourself you have picked the right artist for that, because Prince is blessed with one of the biggest catalogs around AND probably has one of the largest number of circulating unreleased songs PLUS lotsa live recordings. He's ideal for the obsessed.

it's obvious you guys never heard the 'young americans' album. at the very least, it's got more soul and funk on it than anything on 'musicology'. i know that's not sayin' much, but if you're going crazy waiting for a new prince CD, you could do much worse...there's a reason "fame" is on a recent tommy boy anthology of songs that inspired early hip-hop, ya know...just sayin'...

What is Come 2 My House and Beautiful Strange?

Come 2 My House is Prince's collaboration with Chaka Khan (released under Chaka's name alone). A damn bloody soul/funk MASTERPIECE! Get it fast!!!
Beautiful Strange is a video once released on Prince's website, which features a wonderfully funky live concert in London from 1998 (with Larry, Doug E. &²Chaka as guests), + a bonus interview & the video of Come On. It was released on VHS only, & 4 quite a short time, but untils P rereleases it on DVD or WMA, it's easy 2 find on p2p's under the name "live at café de paris" (i don't break the rules by saying this, do i?)
