I enjoy what he has given to us..

He's a musician, and his creative juices flow in many directions.

I don't care what people say. Musicology is a good album. I just think that most people are wishing Prince would keep doing the same type of music he's been doing in the past. It's called growing up and experimenting with different styles. Musicology sounds good to me.

It's not that bad it's just a little underwhelming. Call My Name and Reflection are both great songs and rank up there with anything he's done. The only songs that really don't cut it with me are Musicology and Life O' The Party. You can't do "U" rated funk, it simply isn't possible and both those songs are complete and utter fluff. The rest of the album is at least average. I just think the whole package is a little too modest for it's own good. I much prefer it to The Rainbow Children though as at least it's accessible.

Yep those are my Favorite 2 off that album.. (Call My Name and Relection) Sweet songs. biggrin

Putting all personal reactions aside, the musicianship on Lovesexy and TRC is of a far higher caliber than that on Musicology. As I've said, Musicology is a good album, but it doesn't come anywhere near the incredible songwriting on Lovesexy, or the tight playing on The Rainbow Children

I am going to say this again: Lovesexy and The Rainbow sucks and Musicology happens to be the most briallent album.

you are delusional!

some of u could argued and compared all you want why Lovesexy and Rainbow Children is a better album but in the end it all about taste and you guys going to end up hurting your typing fingers of failing to change my mind. I am not going to change how I feel about liking Musicology better. In case you didnt know prince's fans happen to be diverse people in the world. you got prince's rock lover fans who going to like one album while hated another and his r&b the same too so therefore no album isnt going to please. and that one thing that prince doesn't have to worry about is alienating so many people because he always going to have fans on each album he makes.

Why can't we just accept the album for what it is instead of dogging on it? It's not his greatest nor his worst. It's better than half the crap that's out there, that's for sure. There some good tracks and a few skippers. It's his... what 25th album? I think it's pretty good for a guy who's been putting out music for over 2 decades.

Just because he's no longer at his creative peak, doen't mean his music is suddenly crap. Nor does it mean he hasn't hit other peaks. Nor does it mean that we aren't going to get any good music. I can name at least a dozen songs (and so can many on here) that he has done/put out in the last 5 years that are absolute gems...nay classics.

As a fan for many years, by this time, you either follow him or not. I mean if you haven't figured out that we're not going to get another Purple Rain, then I don't know what to tell you.

clapping

Jesus Christ, someone who speaks sense. I've been meaning to add my comments but

A - I know this thread is going to appear in 'My Org' for the next 6 weeks
B - nothing I say or do is going to change anyone else's perception

However, I wholeheartedly agree with everything you say. As I mentioned on another thread recently, I think some people's expectations of what Prince releases (or, rather, what they think Prince should release) are ridiculous. Let the man do what he wants. If people like it, great. If they don't, move on. Or release something yourself which you consider 'worthy' - or is that something they expect of Prince, which takes them back to square one.

If I sound like 'fam', so be it. I'm quite happy not to get so worked up over things. I can quite happily listen to any of his albums and appreciate them for what they are. Some of them are my favourites, some of them aren't. All of them I can place in the correct context or see them for what they are. And if I don't like any particular song - I don't listen to it. Simple as. I certainly don't expect every single Prince release to be the greatest artistic statement ever. Musicology is just a fun, 'mainstream' Prince album. On that level, I think it works very well. And as purplecam says, just watch the whining and bitching start when Prince releases a new album. rolleyes There's always someone who's never satisfied.

Enjoy it while it lasts, folks.

Same here. If one doesn't feel an album, then it's ok not to listen to it. Listen to the songs you dig, if there are any and enjoy. That's what makes Prince so great. There's something for everyone.

Oh, thanks for speaking for all us equally. So without hearing the music of some of the people that regularily contribute to this site you are ready to say the material that is contained on albums that are generally considered quite lacklustre, such as "Newpower Soul" or "Chaos & Disorder", is inexorably better? I seriously doubt that. confused

Prince had a lucrative greatest hits tour coming up, so what better album to go out with than a new album which sounded like a photocopy of his greatest hits? In other words Prince listened to his biggest selling albums back to back and quickly dashed off his own tribute album. Boring.
