Well they never could have, they share tracks and are intertwined too much. If Dream Factory had been released, there most likely be no Camille and certainly no Crystal Ball. If Camille was released there would be no Crystal Ball because it was an expansion of the Camille project. If Crystal Ball was released, there would be no Camille (for above reason) and Dream Factory wouldn't have been released because CB re-used many of it's tracks. As great as they are, I think it's better the way it turned out. Look at this way, we got Sign O' The Times, largely and critically viewed as Prince's crowning musical glory. As fans we also get Dream Factory, Camille and Crystal Ball. Releasing them separately now would be futile, as so much of their content is already officially released. It would be nice if Prince put the NPGMC to the use it's screaming out for and put out Vault material, along with some interesting stories about their creation - the (officially) missing DF/Camille/CB tracks would be a nice start.
