Parade -- Sign O' The Times -- Lovesexy

Gotta go with this. If Prince were at the top of his game with either Controversy or ATWIAD I'd definitely include 1999 and PR, his best consecutive albums. However, I consider The Black Album to go along with Lovesexy. You can't really have one without the other regardless of how they were marketed.

Agreed in all respects. Controversy is an underrated album but still would be the weak link in a trilogy with 1999 and Purple Rain. ATWIAD is a good album with great individual songs, so the same would apply.

Black and Lovesexy are simply mirror images of one another. And because Black didn't officially drop until 7 years later I can't go with it even if I wanted to do so.

As far as I;m concerned, since the boot was so widely available, I consider the "Black" album (or, as I like to call it, The Funk Bible) to have been released in 87/88. So, my trilogy is

SOTT/The Funk Bible/Lovesexy

To me, the "Black" album picked up where SOTT left off, and Lovesexy was the counterpoint to "Black" (in fact, I usually listen to them back to back). Those three seemlessly flow together.
