Prince as a Producer Hello All,
Somebody posted a link a while back to an interview with Timbaland who, when asked to name his influences as a producer, replied "Dre and Prince". But how did Prince influence Timbaland? I'm having trouble identifying the "Prince-sound". What typifies his production? Is he a "good" producer? Is he an influential producer? What makes a good producer? Thanks, Ecnirpnz "If I was your girlfriend I could never take the place of your man".

Can'r remember where i read it, but someone described Prince as having a 'kitchen sink' approach to production, bringing as many different techniques together as possible. there was also a 'greatest producers of all time' article in Mojo (I think) a few months ago in which Brian Eno said that Prince was the greatest studio producer ever.
As for the Timbaland stuff - if u listen to a lot of the stuff he's done with Missy or Aaliyah, the actual sounds on the drum programming sound quite 80s. maybe that's why.

Yeah I think it has a lot to do with the beats Timbaland uses. I remember Prince saying that back in the 80's everyone was approaching him for help on beats the way that Timbaland helps everyone today. He is definatley overlooked in that category, but atleast the musicians recognize it. That is quite a compliment coming from Brian Eno.
