How rare is...

The Prince 1999 CD without DMSR - think it was originally released as some kind of time-restricted edition.

Dunno.

Whatever.

Prey tell oh wise ones.

I don't think it's seen as some sort of collectible item at all.

It was just the original CD pressings of the album.

I can't imagine anyone seeking out the original pressing of 1999. C'mon, a muthafucka needs some DMSR. I suppose if you're a hardcore collector...

I'm old-school, I bought that first 1999 when it came out and I had to go get the Risky Business soundtrack for DMSR on CD.

so the original release was missing DMSR? Why ? And how long did it take for this to be corrected?

I sold one on eBay last year, it didn't go for big bucks.

I don't think they're that collectable, I guess collectors might want one because they're a bit different to the one you can get in stores now, but I don't think they're all that rare or valuable.

//

Doctormario - There's a blurb on the back of the CD that says something like "to enable the release of this double LP album on CD, the track DMSR has been omitted" - basically, the double LP was too long to fit on a CD at the time (now we get 80, 90 and 100 min CDs, so it isn't a problem).

Of course, what we would like to know is "why exactly DMSR" was left out? "All the white people clap your hands on the four"?

The reason for that was that D.M.S.R. had already been released on CD on a
movie soundtrack album (I forgot which movie), so it was the logical choice.

Risky Business, as already mentioned in this very thread. The funny thing is that I can't think of a single track to replace omitting DMSR. I still have both versions.

/\ yeah, what they meant was that one track from the album had to be omitted due to time restriction, and DMSR was the obvious choice as it had already been released on CD on a movie soundtrack.

I got the new Nine inch Nails CD with teeth and it can play on both sides. One side is DVD. I don't know why they don't make two sided music CDs
