Am I the only one who thinks Prince should take his time and put out product when he has enough really good material. One of Prince's issues in the 90s was rushing product out before he had enough really good songs. I think a cooling off period is exactly what he needs. I'd rather wait a little longer and get something really good rather than get something rushed.

In theory, that's true. In practice, I'd rather have the material before Prince over-produces it. Fans that have heard early raw boot versions of tracks invariably prefer them to the released versions.

I think you can work on an album for years trying to create perfection - and still end up with a turkey. Or, like Kate Bush, never get round to releasing a new album at all for fear it will be imperfect.

ditto. I get worried when he holds on to an for more than 6 months, tends to get rehashed to the point that you don't recognize the original raw genius in the songs.

Agreed. So far it's just a bunch of cryptic shit and parties none of us get invited to.

Oh give him a break. You know a guy needs some time off for all the hard work he has done, all the cities he has toured and the hotels he has been forced to sleep in, all the South American beauty queens he has committed adultery with, you know Grandpa-Prince is 50 YEARS OLD GIVE HIM SOME SLACK.

This is true. He's better when he doesn't edit. But they are two seperate issues. Having enough good material to put out a quality album is different than revisting songs and over editing them. I understand the point though, if the material is lying around he can't leave good enough alone and will invariably end up messing with the good material and his genius has been the underproduced stuff.

If he knew he was going to be taking such a long break, it would have been the perfect time to put out some vault material, to tide fans over. Of course, Prince has a genius for missing opportunities.

yes

and everytime you think "ok, he's put up every piece of old shit to rehash
on the npgmc now. he's bound to release some new stuff next" and everytime
he pulls another old mouldy rabbit out of a hat to slap it onto the site 4
the fans who already have all that stuff.

mark my words, the next "BIG" thing coming to npgmc is an album of all the
songs from year 1 of the club that haven't been rehashed yet. You know the
stuff like

Jukebox with a Heartbeat
Madrid 2 Chicago
Breathe
My Medallion
Cybersingle
Van Gogh
Habibi
When Will We Be Paid ?

He'll put one unreleased song on it and throw it up onto the mixing desk!!

nod

I can't complain really. I've recently been backing up my cd's to wma files on my hard drive and to my astonishment I found that I had copied 34 cd's worth of Prince over. That's not albums, but single discs, so counting Emancipation as 3 dsics. Even so, that's a huuuuuge amount of music from one man. I still have to back up Parade, Lovesexy, Black Album and Grafitti Bridge. That count doesn't include NPG efforts such as Exodus, bootlegs, or any collaborations like Madhouse.

All in all, if you include NPG stuff, it's over 40 discs of music! I can wait a little longer for a new album.
RIP sad

Do you feel starved, GoldenGlove?

I am a fan too, but I don't think he's starving me.
