Who's like Prince?

We are in a totay different musica enviroment in the years past 2000.

Some say Usher is the new Michael Jackson,Ashanti's the new Janet,Oink the new Madonna and whom now would be the next version of Prince?
Working up a purple sweat.

Although we all know there is only 1 Prince, if I had to pick someone I'd pick Beck. He's short, funky, quirky, writes great/challenging songs, great/challenging concept albums, not affraid to do his own thing etc. Generally speaking he's a very talented dude (though IMO not in the same league as Prince of course!). In fact, if Beck were black, I believe there is no doubt he would be hailed as the "new Prince".

no one. however, ever considered the possibility that someone may one day come along who is BETTER than Prince? hey, scoff all you like, but Prince is not the only musical polymath who walks/has ever walked the planet.

Someday someone will come along and bring the full package. It just does not appear to be anyone at this moment.

Considering the state of the arts departments in schools now-a-days, and what comically passes as music on radio and television unless there's a MAJOR wake-up call amongst the decision-makers, I really wouldn't hold my breath on that.

That's the most outrageous comparion I've heard. At least Janet can dance. I'd say Ciara's a bit closer to Janet, at the moment.

But by today's comparison's, I'd definitely have to say that Beck's a good one. Lenny Kravitz tries too hard, and Andre 3000's on his way. But Beck's the closest mirror I can think of right now.

eh, I hate calling anybody, "the next so and so"
but I guess Prince's closest followers are Andre3000,
Beck, Van Hunt, Pharrell, and Alicia keys.
If you will, so will I

he would know this all too well. considering the current market, a musician or indeed musicians comparable to Prince would be having a helluva time trying to get signed right now. i'm sure he's on his way/trying to break through though. maybe has been for years. good things comes to those who wait and real talent is certainly overlooked these days in lieu of a culture which praises mediocrity. trying times for a musician of quality, to be sure. but i have faith it will happen under the right set of circumstances.

well said.

I don´t think that any of those NEW one´s are anything like the originals. Plus when somebody says this is a new Michael, Janet, Madonna whoever - to me that word NEW should represent the amount of ORIGINALITY that those artists brought to the music industry, not the copying of those artists, But those "newbies" are nothing special to me.
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

I'll probably get blasted 4 this but I'd say Lenny Kravitz. Not image wise or anything but musically he reminds me of Prince. He can record a cool song all by his lonesome, his simplistic writing style and choice of words 2 express his point, view or feelings. He comes close 2 the mold of Prince.

lenny is or WAS talented
but he does not 'come close to the mold of prince'
his songwriting abilties arent even close (take a look at his lyrics)
he is afraid to really experiment with his music
throwing a sax in a song doesnt really mean anything

his music is very simple
i can even play the drums along to his early work
and ive only sat at a drum set 6 times in my life

we can see he loves prince especially in his early work
but i wouldnt compare the 2
no way! razz

But missed the orchid
