That pole he has during live shows...

OK, browsed the FAQs and didn't see any mention of this. And since the search is apparently non-functional I guess I'll ask here. I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed and I simply couldn't find it.

Anyway, what is that pole for that he has next to him during live shows? I saw him last July in Detroit and couldn't figure out what it was for and didn't really think anything of it but now it shows up in some of the DVDs from early in his career.

Does this have anything to do with the rumor I heard about him entering and leaving the stage in a box?

The pole is near the exit/entrance opening in the floor of the stage. Maybe so he can play "fireman" when exiting?
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

The pole had a subconsious symbolic meaning. Because he is now a Jehovah's Witness, he refuses to enter the world of politics (POLE-itics). The pole on the Musicology tour was in the shape of an upsidown U. This has a profetic meaning. The pole extending from the ground represents mans POLE-itics rising (from hell) against God. It then begins to bend as it can no longer sustain its own weight. It then falls back to the ground representing Revelations where God banishes all of men's evils back to hell...

...at least that's how I saw it...
