How do you think Prince was different in 1987 and today Has anyone ever met Prince around 1987? I know it sounds like an odd inquiry but I was just wondering what kind of person he was back then. For some reason that period in the late eighties facinated me...that is the time I thought he made some of the most fablous, intresting, awsome music ever and I was just wondering what it was like to be in the presence of somone who was writing those kinds of songs? He just seemed like such a cool, complex human being around the Sott/Lovesexy era.
How is he different now?

Aside from age and religious affiliations, I would say that things changed much with P. He's still the horny wild man that we've grown to love over the years and ain't too much has changed. Every couple years or so, he reinvents himself and tries something different may it be music wise, fashion, or relationship wise with new . [Edited 7/16/05 11:11am]

The thing that stands out most is that around that time he ended his musical relationship with Wendy & Lisa. I can't possibly think of anything more impactful. While there'll always be debate about the quality of his music going forward, there can be no question that it was never the same again.
For better or worse, it signaled the end of an era.

1987: Prince's world was his artistic career, and he was driven to push new envelopes that still tried to take the current vibe of pop and make it his. He was also seemed to enjoy a bit of an evil/sadistic element to his art and treatment of people. He stayed within his "Prince" brand of music.
2005: Prince's world included more common human cares like family and domestic/mental stability. He also appears to be undermining his "Prince" brand by doing covers, producing more conventionally produced music, and opening the door much more to his real personality as opposed to his stage persona. He also appeares to have given up some of his artistic endeavors like filmmaking, protogees... He also stopped doing the splits... Krystal666 said: Has anyone ever met Prince around 1987? I think 1987 Prince he was still fresh , sott, & Lovesxy both very interesting fresh vibe albums, these days his music hmmmm in a way maybe it has less direction in the sense that its not so much like making new friends but rather like socialising with friends he knows, likes and enjoys.

In 1987 Prince was the artist of his decade, a creative icon like Presley in the fifties, The Beatles in the sixties and Led Zep or David Bowie in the 70's
Today Prince is some Carlos Santana or James Brown, living on his past and releasing mediocre records, creating some sparks during live concerts, but out of idea's and inspiration when it comes to the music he releases on cd.... and i am not meaning this ironic...

He creates a lot. I don't see many acts these days making it the long hual that P has and still putting on a great show. I am not sure what some fans what. Prince is almost 50 years old. Just what do you expect him to do. "
