So your friends don't like Prince so you decide to overwhelm the fuck out of them. Trust me one disc is plenty as an introduction and they can ask for more if they like what they hear.

Well after just glancing over, it looks aight. I mean how can you call a 7-disc set a best of? He has so much good shit. You just can't cut many songs out of too many of the albums made in the 70s-80s. That's basically a library. Specially when you consider that some P albums had like 7-11 songs hehe. Of course there are plenty of great choices in there though!

A 7CD set is not a 'best of', it's a great big box set.

A 'best of' ought to be preferably 1CD, or possibly 2
(even 3 is pushing it)

Great job! They will be getting a much needed dose of P into their ears and souls! I love the collection. I wish I could get a copy of Glass Cutter. I'm going to probably give in and download it from Prince's NPG store in a few days. I have a question though. Why not just copy every song on the Batman soundtrack? confuse I mean that is the BEST soundtrack EVER made. (Not counting Purple Rain - they are probably tied.) (Sorry but it is true.)

A lady friend of mine not very familiar with Prince asked me to quote "give me all you got" in terms of his best material. I made this thread to see if I left out any key songs and to get feedback on how good of a box set it is.

You can leave off so much right there. My first edit
leaves me with these songs. Of which you could leave
off another half dozen at least.

The point is to showcase his talent and versatility.
People already know his big hits, so you don't have
to include too many of those.

The rest has to be kept simple and orderly. Don't be
putting too much obscure bad quality or overlong and
whininig songs on there, they'll only get on peoples
tits if they're not hardcore fans.

Keep it at two discs max. That's a nice way to make
the songs flow into one another nicely spread out on
two seperate discs.

I Wanna Be Your Lover
Thieves In The Temple
Gett Off
17 Days
Da Bang
Computer Blue
When I lay my hands on you
Sign o the times
Anna Stesia
Don't play me
Mountains
She's always in my hair
When 2 R in Love
Adore
When you were mine
Erotic city
Irresistable bitch

Those all seem good choices. Some tread the same kind
of ground so they could be left off.

A few songs I would include myself, would be amongst
others:

Pearls Before The Swine
Avalanche
My Computer
Dolphin
Good Life (Big City Rmx)
Gamillah
Space
Don't Play Me
Come On
Da Bang
Mellow/1+1+1 is 3
Reflection
When I Lay My Hands on U

You know, nice and breezy, nothing too deep
or difficult, but catchy and nicely crafted
at the same time.

If people fall in love with those songs they
will be more willing to give some others a
try. That's how I got most of my pals hooked
back in the day (well, 1995 lol).

possibly those on a disc of newer material
together with 1 disc of older material.
that way you can make the songs fit better
together instead of having songs from 2004
coming right after a 1983 track, that does
not work imo.

smile

No, No, No !

Here is the best possible tracklisting for a newbie IMO

1. (make the first song simillar to what they would normally listen too... e.g. if it's rap, then maybe My Name Is Prince or P#### Control.

2. Little Red Corvette (hugely popular with none fans)

3. 1999 (Same as 2)

4. (another huge hit)

5. (Something of a totally different music style to the rest)

6. Purple Rain

7. Get Off

8. Musicology (to prove that Prince is still going)

9. Erotic City (must have funk!)

10. (Huge hit)

11. (Something to there taste)

12. (same as 11)

13. (A ballad such as Adore)

14. Same as 13

15. Alphabet St.

16. (Huge hit)

17. (Same as 11)

I made that 7 disc set for my car, so i dont have to bring all my cd's in the ride, at the same time, I'm trying to expose some of my close-minded friends to Prince.

Well U did ask for a rating.
Did you want that to be honest, or something u would want to hear?

That list (althought well thought-out) seems like songs that you might want to hear (made it for your car and everything.

Appeal to them.

IMO, u should get a feel on what type of stuff they listen to, find what Prince songs are similar, and make one CD, per person. biggrin

U shouldn't go wrong. smile

Hell YES!... if you want to convert someone into a fan you are better off giving them

#1 All the KEY hits
#2 Songs that appeal to their personal taste

Well, I think the person who made this post is trying to prove Prince's musical genius, and that could convert them, but I'm not sure he said that's what he's trying to do.shrug
On any note, I'm pretty sure they've heard those songs anyway.
