Right before Purple Rain came out, I remember a rumour circulating around the school-yard that Prince had his left hand cut off in a car door!
Story goes,Prince and a car-full of his freinds came upon a group of guy's playing basketball,Prince approached the dudes and made some trouble and a foot chase insued.
When Prince jumped into the awaiting car with his freinds,his left hand got caught in the car door!
The story then took a stranger twist as it was rumoured that Prince was then fitted with an iron hand.My freinds thought that was why he alway's wore a lace glove on his left hand!
I remember that about 6 months after this rumour went around,People Magazine had Prince on the cover,after Purple Rain had broke big.
On the cover was a live shot of Prince holding one laced- covered,left hand in the air.
I remember studying that lace-covered hand for hours trying to get any glimpse of that "iron hand"...

okay..this one is going to hurt...


a friend had copied me a cassette horrid quality tape of Graffitti Bridge when it first came out.....I thought it was the return of wendy and lisa...jumped up and down for joy, believed it for weeks until the video premiered.....


now, i must have only been 12 back then so please dont shoot me.....

As a child, I didn't discover the LRC line until I listened to the song with headphones. My cousins, also Prince fanatics, and I just thought he was saying "Girl, ooh, ah, ah eee!" (I mean he did end When Doves Cry with a series of such gutteral grunts and moans).



But then under the spell of my headphones-- I suddently yelled out to my cousins "Come here. PRince is saying somethin in this line. There are words here!"

Not only did we discover he was saying "Girl, you've got an ass like I've never seen," but also "The ride is so smooth, you must be a limousine." where as previous we thought it was just "Oh, I-- uh, oh, ooh, You must be ah, ooh, oohwee! Owwah!"

Discovery's a bitch. A good bitch though.
