Kamasutra

No hate, please. I just want to know what this sounds like. Is it typical ballet music? Classical? New Age Prince jazz?

It's really not classical at all.

Think of the (and I used the term loosely) 'dramatic' bombastic pomposity of stuff like Strays Of The World or 3 Chains Of Gold, only instrumental.

There's a fair bit of piano and keyboard work by Prince, lots of plinky plonky masturbation (similar to the end of Glam Slam - not knocking Glam Slam!), horns and flutes.

I imagine it's what they play in the elevator down to Hell.

It's a dull, obnoxious, aimless sounding 80's synth symphony.

No. No. Sort of, yes.

In that order.

do you own "Emancipation"? The songs on disc two called "The Plan"
is also on "Kamasutra", it's a good example of what the rest of the
album sounds like.

it's probably the one album I've listened to least of all albums.

I've got to co-sign IstenSzek on this one. Most of Prince's albums - even my least favourites - I can find redeeming qualities in them.

This one? disbelief Horrid. With the exception of about 2 or 3 tracks ('Cutz' being one of them - and I only listen to them when I think I'll give the album another chance) I hardly ever listen to it. Not for me. I just can't see what Prince was trying to achieve.

But, hey, Prince is Prince and I'm not. And I'm certainly not as musically gifted as he is. So - before anyone has a hissy fit - it's just my opinion, folks. shrug

I guess our perception of that album would be completely different if it came as some sort of soundtrack to a ballet like the Joffrey Ballet or something like that. It´s a bit weak on its own. With a bunch of dancers it would be OK.

TheFrog

notwithstanding its title, a deeply unsexy, tedious waste of a blank cd.

I actually like it. boxed Its no masterpiece, but there are some interesting things going on. It's certainly better than New Power Soul.

i really like it as well. it is sooo different, but I have to be in the right mood/mindset to listen to it. Usually when I want to "unwind" or "relax" I throw this CD in. It has kind of an "orchestra" feel to it. Do u like Enigma?

It's like NEWS, only even less listenable.

Actually, I kinda like the first 3 tracks (although, I think I've only listened to this CD 3 times, max), then it's downhill from there.

Keep in mind that the music was commissioned for Prince's wedding to Mayte, so it was never meant to be traditional Prince music. Much of it sounds like a movie score. Ever hear Danny Elfman's score of Batman? It's cool to listen to once, but it's not something you'd want to play on a repeat basis. Kamasutra is pretty much like that.

any Prince stuff is worth checking out. if anything, it's a nice odd
piece of music to listen to at least once. there are a few things on
it that resemble "songs" tho. Like OneNiteAlone said, "Cutz" is one
of them. There's something on there that sounds a bit like Madhouse,
and one more kinda ok song. The rest is rather horrible tho. But you
won't regret getting a copy I guess if you're a fan.

It isn't a very cohesive piece, but then, it really wasn't meant to be. It's background music for a wedding, and in that context it achieves its goal.
