Why doesn't Prince also write music for movies?

I just finished watching the new Danny Elfman movie (Charlie & The Chocolate Factory), and he does an incredible job writing the musical score and songs for the movie. As I heard these new and different sounds, I thought about Prince and how he never really pursued this venue for his art (never mind Do Anything, Batman, etc.). No one really expects score-writers to make hits, but they do expect them to be creative. They can practically do anything they want without the pressure of also trying to be commercial. In the past, Prince has complained about not being able to "free the music" -- but why hasn't he tried using movies as yet another outlet for his "children"? He could do some pretty cool stuff. Wendy & Lisa have been rather successful in this area, writing music for movies and television -- and this music they make is quite intriguing, to say the least. I could see Prince encircled by keyboards and guitars, putting together the craziest things we've never seen, all inspired for movies and television. Has any musician as talented as Prince, a multi-instrumentalist, even ever tried pushing the limits of this particular venue? I'd think he could have some mad fun getting away with all kinds of things -- electronica, hard rock, classical, new age, ...whatever! The only reason why I think Prince wouldn't go this route is that it'd be like working for hire. ...but i don't think it's quite as beastly bad as all that now, is it? Have some fun... knock yourself out!

Did you forget he wrote the soundtrack for "Girl 6" for Spike Lee?

I think it would of been cool if Prince did the music for the new Batman movie, he did a good job with the first one and it seemed to fit with the vibe of the film, would of been interesting to see what he did with this one.

Wasn't it said that he was doing the soundtrack for a new movie staring Keanu Reeves?

I'm not talking just songs for a movie... I'm talking about actually sitting down and writing the score for a movie, that is the background music -- not just having songs picked for a movie (Girl 6), but actually creating all the music for the movie like Danny Elfman, John Williams, James Horner, etc. Prince has never really done this (outside of bits & pieces like "Mia Bocca" in UTCM). Even Purple Rain's background music was created by someone else. I think Prince could really get his creative juices flowing by doing music for movies and television, in addition to doing whatever else he wants.

Wrote? more like a bunch of hand-picked songs by Spike Lee; all but one had been created long before the movie
