Prince albums every 4 years Do you think it would have been better if prince released an album every 4 years like Michael Jackson. Imagine how good each album would be if he gathered together all the best stuff from each of his yearly albums. I can imagine that every album would rank amoung the greatest albums released. What do you all think?

Michael Jackson hasn't released anything even half decent for well over a decade, so the time-release version of quality control doesn't quit cut it here. Don't worry, I can't get pregnant - my ovaries are diseased......

When a musician waits 4 or 5 years between each cd personally that means that musician has to win me back every 4 or 5 years. I haven't bought a MJ cd since Thriller. If you wait too long between cds you lose the audience's interest.

It would have been better 4 the record executives yeah, but not 4 Prince. I kinda think that if Prince spends 2 much time on an album he tends 2 over do it. I miss some of the the rawness of the 80s.

i wouldnt say four years....maybe two..
but what i would say is that prince's albums would benefit from the "if it sounds like another already released song, dont put it on the album" syndrom. Space for sale...

Nah, some of the best Prince is the Prince you can't play on the radio. To do what MJ did, damn near every song on the album would have to be radio friendly. Prince would have had to put out some pretty vanilla albums IMO. Funky, but vanilla. That just wouldn't be Prince. CALL ME A DREAMER 2!

Hell to the naw! He needs to keep on releasing an album a year, just like he has always done (most years) and everyone else used to back in the day also. Andy is a four letter word.

I think the good ole days of a new P album every year may be over, we may have to settle for two to three years, fortunately for us I dont think he will ever stop wanting or having new music to put out, just a matter of getting it out.

I still hold out. I think he's going to get bored with just displaying his music at his 3121 parties. He thrives on performing in front of large crowds. Given that he hates to focus on the old stuff, he'd end up putting out new albums. That's my logic. Come here, babe.. yeah...

What i am trying to say is this:
lets say he released an album in 87 that contained all songs from 84 to 87. Imagine the track listing. WOW 1984 All of Purple Rain + erotic city, 17 days etc. 1985 Rasperry Beret, Pop Life, She's always in my hair 1986 Kiss, Mountains, Anotherlover..., Sometimes it snows in april, 1987 Sign o' the times, Housequake, If I was your gfriend etc You can see that if he release all the best stuff from each year, every album would be so amazing no one could touch him. The problem is with prince is he can never release a TOTALLY perfect album by releasing every year. Can anyone come up with other years almagamated into one album??

Heck no! I get bored of music too easily. I'm already bored of Musicology as it is...I'm DYING for new Prince music. That was always one of my favorite things about Prince...he was always putting out new fun music to listen too...sometimes I couldn't even keep up! I think it is awesome how fast he gave us music!

Hell NO! The "one album a year" concept suits me well. You know, the thought that some songs that you think are great would not have been released because Prince himself thought it wasn't good/original enough just scares me.
With one album a year at least you get a whole bunch of songs out of which you can pick your own favorites. [Edited 7/14/05 11:05am] RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

it has always seemed to me that Prince doesn't just record music and when he has enough for an album picks out the best tracks and assembles an album, like most if not all artists.
Prince records each album with a specific album in mind. so even if Prince took four years inbetween, even if he recorded his greatest song ever in the first year, by the time that fourth year rolled around and he wanted to release an album, that great song wouldn't be on it because it isn't part of that album. that is why there are so many great unreleased songs--they just didn't belong on what he wanted to release. that's why most Prince albums have their own sound, for better or for worse. Prince assembles an album with a purpose, they just aren't a collection of the best songs he could come up with in a given period of time. if Prince did this he wouldn't be Prince any longer, he would be Britney Spears. do you want to visit Britney.org? [Edited 7/14/05 12:29pm] this message brought to you by logic.

[Edited 7/14/05 12:29pm] actually, my undersanding of this matter is different.....rave is a collection of tunes not intended for an album..graffitti bridge has songs from the late 70's and early 80's thrown in..... while there are some albums that are created as a whole (TRC, Purple Rain) there are others that arent (SOTT is a perfect example of this...it was originally intended for a couple different albums and then finally turned into SOOT)... Space for sale...

This is my understanding as well. Even for PR, on the DVD special edition, the director (Fargnoli or Magnoli... i can't remember) was saying that Prince handed him about 100 songs and asked him which ones he thought should be used for the movie. So it too was a collection of tunes, though some were expressly for the movie (live, famously, When Doves Cry) Come here, babe.. yeah...

By that reconing, you'd only ever get the most commercial, hit-worthy songs on an album (like you listed). There would be no room for tracks like Tamborine, Do U Lie, Life Can Be So Nice, Jack U Off, Sister, Annie Christian, All The Critics Love U In NY, Starfish & Coffee, Bob George, New Position, etc, etc, etc. Nah, I like that Prince's output isn't so polished that it's completely devoid of any experimentation, fun or playfullness. Don't worry, I can't get pregnant - my ovaries are diseased......

if you release an album every four years
that means what you were feeling or thinking about in your writings in the 1st year wont reach us until..say the 5th year? i dont think an artist will want to spread a word that he was feeling 5 years ago You saw the apple
hanging on the tree, But missed the orchid in your gaze
