One of the best things written about Prince From Purple Reign by Liz Jones " Prince is threatening, mostly to men, not because he is explicit but because his work is so outside the norm. He invites men to imagine a different way of relating to women, and invites women to imagine men who could imagine such things."
Well, if THIS isn't hitting the nail on the head...

This is quite interesting and very true. It makes me think of "if I was your girlfriend". Many people didn't "get" that song when it first came out and many still don't. It definitely speaks of a different way to be with one's girl (baby can I dress you? I mean, help pick out your clothes before we go out).

This song was one of P's deep moments where he pondered over what's the difference of hetero relationship between a man/women vs. a platonic friendship amoung women and how does it differ and should it differ.

Break it down for 'em Legs.. If I Was Your Girlfriend is so deep. I love the line, "If I was your girlfriend would you let me dress you? I mean help you pick out your clothes before we got out? Not that you're helpless but sometime Sometime those are the things that bein' in love's about". How many men would state that and have the awareness to clarify what he meant by asking if he could dress you? To let the woman know that he's not trying to control her or tell her what to do, but that he just wants to take an active role in her life, relate to her on a level different from male/female or boyfriend/girlfriend and their assigned roles. That's fucking genius! The song looks at gender roles and provides both men and women with an alternative way of relating to one another. Most people will never GET IT because they will never take the time to LISTEN to it. [Edited 7/16/05 12:41pm]

I have always given my girlfriends input on their attire. The only thing gay about that is the person who holds steadfast to these rigid gender roles we are given. There is nothing more fulfilling than being there for your woman in a myriad of ways.

How would you know why I worship that man? I worship Prince because he is a unique, talented, special human being! Not because he is famous! Not because he is rich! Because he is Prince. There is NO ONE like him. P.S. WOMEN worship Prince...it's a fact.
