Has anyone else heard the song "Pray" by M.C Hammer? It sounds like to me that a little snipit of "When Doves Cry" is repeated over and over in this song. Just wondering if it's there or if I'm hearing things.

My best friend who is a Prince fan, loves to make fun of Hammer's version of "Soft and Wet". He knows that it has got to be the stupidiest remake ever made. I wonder why Prince, gave him the okay for those two songs?

It was either that, or get sued. I think at the time, Prince wanted to tap into a new market. Hell, it sorta helped, Queen when Vanilla Ice sampled "Under Pressure" for "Ice Ice Baby". I also think the reason why Prince said yes, was due to the subject matter of "Pray".

Jesus dude do you ever know what you are talking about? Prince said in a interview that he needed to settle a lawsuit so he let Hammer use WDC to settle the suit and he liked what the song Pray was about.

Hammer sampled When Doves Cry for Pray. I wonder if he met with Prince & asked to use the song or did Warner Bros. just give the ok for him to do it. We all know Prince wrote When Doves Cry of course. Hammer wrote his lyrics for Pray using Prince's music i am almost sure of. I do not think Prince wrote those corny lines. That song sucked.

There is also a remix version of PRAY and I only heard and saw the video once. The song actually has Prince singing on it.....let me clarify it has the part of Prince singing the "huh huh huh" part in When Doves Cry mixed into Hammers song. It's tight - and I think Hammer and P were cool because Hammer was in the audience when P was blowing the Arsino Hall show up. ~ Prime
