You can definately count me amongst those who feel that Prince made the right choice in leaving 'Free' on '1999'. 'Moonbeam Levels', while a fine tune and all, isn't fit to replace any of the ballads on that album.

Moonbeam Levels
Prince Yesterday I tried 2 write a novel but I didn't know where 2 begin So I laid down in the grass tryin' 2 feel the world turn Boy loses girl in a rain storm, nuclear World War III All that's left is pain and sorrow, as far as he's concerned CHORUS: He says please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me I'm lookin' 4 a better place 2 die Maybe he's lookin' 4 a different world Maybe he's lookin' 4 a brand new high Maybe he would like a nice condo overlookin' the rings of Saturn Maybe he wants affection instead of a plastic life Maybe he doesn't know what he wants at all CHORUS A newborn child knows nothing of destruction Nothing of love and hate What happens in between is a mystery Because we don't give a damn about his fate He said he'll never keep diaries 2 learn from his mistakes Instead he'll just repeat all the good things that he's done Fight 4 perfect love until it's perfect love he makes When he's happy then his battle will be won (It's never 2 late) Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me (Send your.. send 2 me) Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me (Send your levels 2 me) Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me (Sending me your.. send 2 me) I'm lookin' 4 a better place 2 die (Better place 2 die) Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me (Oh yeah!) Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me {x2} He don't, he don't, he don't really wanna die He don't wanna, he don't wanna, he don't wanna die {x2} He don't really wanna die

while I always thought (and still do) it was "please send all your moonbeam levels to me".... Mind you, they're both cryptic as fuck.... Hmmm, I never saw that in The Vault before now, I always heard it as "please send...." too. Just listening to it now, I still think it's "please send...." The first would could be peace, but the next part definately sounds like "send all your", I can't hear "glory" at all. The first time I heard it was on an old, shitty boot (yes, it was labeled "A Better Place 2 Die") and what I heard sounded something like Police and all the money Leather's to me The Normal Whores Club

"Extra Loveable" should have DEFINATELY been a b-side as well. But, "Moombeam" isn't a stronger cut than "Free", lyrically or musically, so, P definately made the right decision. But yeah, it's one of my favorites of his non-released material. Wow I've never heard anyone make that comment before. Most fans tend to pick "Free" as one of the weaker cuts on 1999 and wish he hadn't replaced "Moonbeam Levels" with it. Yeah. Prince obviously felt stronger about "Free" since that's what he included on the album. I link that to Stevie Wonder and his cut "Maybe Your Baby" and the VERY similar "Tell Me Something Good". He wrote both around the same period, but because they were both so similar, he went with one and gave the other to Rufus and they got a hit off of it. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
