How P got in2 JW-faith? I´ve read a polish article where it´s said P became a Jehovah´s Witness because of his mother Mattie Shaw. All the time I thought it was Larry Graham who brought him in2. Was the writer of this article bad informed or was it true?

there are numerous threads devoted to this topic but i'll sum it up for u:
Apparently it was p's mother's dying wish that he be a JW. Larry Graham "helped" him with his journey towards the "light". How can I live 4 love? I'm calling!!!

I've never actually heard the "mother's dying wish" theory confirmed.
What I have heard that sounds a little more reasonable is that as far back as '96 Prince became somewhat familiar with the JW faith by talking and associating with George Benson. Whatever George said to P must have sparked some interest, because when he started playing with Larry he started to ask lots of questions and Larry claims to have simply answered those questions by using the bible. It all kinda snowballed from there. So in my opinion, (spiritually)GB planted a seed, Larry watered it, and Prince took it from there and helped God make it grow. By the time Prince's mom was on her death bed, P had been studying the bible with Larry for quite some time. She was probably aware of this and may have had a measure of respect for the faith. She may have encouraged him to continue moving forward with it, but it certainly wasn't her idea.

As far as I know George Benson made use of Paisley Park Studios, so he had opportunity 2 meet Prince. But I realize there is pretty dispute on this topic

I think this was compounded by the fact that people often turn to religion at times of great crisis in his life. At his 2000 press conference he talked about taking time off for religious studies.. .this is after his break with Mayte and the death of their child. Perfectly understandable. Come here, babe.. yeah...

George Benson and Larry are for the Watchtower Society what Tom Cruise is for Scientology and Madonna is for Kaballah. Once someone makes a god out of their religion they see everyone else as "blind" except for them and its their "duty" to make others see how blind they are and how enlightened they've become. That is the danger of pointing people to a man-made organization which will be full of lies, half-truths and some truths instead of just telling people to go directly to the One Who is the Way the Truth and the Life. The Watchtower Society is a classic example of the blind leading the blind, thinking they are following Jehovah when in fact they are following the teachings of Charles Russell and his cut and paste version of the Bible.

I think it may go back furthur than 2000. Prince first started playing cover versions of Larry Graham's "Hair" and "The Jam" during the Gold era (c.94/95). There is also the track "New World" on Emancipation ("New World Translation" anyone??) so maybe he was taking an iterest with the religion back then (via George Benson?). The story goes that he met Larry at a L4OA tour afterparty. I prefer it when Prince used to preach "God Is Love, Love Is God" Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

But since I have been raised around Baptist as opposed to JW, it is natural to gravitate to a something familiar. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Wow, I don't know enough about JW to speak on that religion. But I have read several interviews with GB and he has not talk about religion, his religion doesn't mix in with his music. He is a musician and talks about his music. It is Prince and now Tom Cruise that talks about their religions like they are right and the rest of us damn to hell. Madonna also hasn't really talked about her religion in interviews, the magazine s merely report the fact that she is following a religious belief. If these celebrities chose to become spiritual and STUPID FANS YES I SAID FANS!) take on those beliefs because their favorite idol is into that belief, then, THAT IS THE FANS' problem!! And as much as I don't like that P won't play his explicit music anymore because he feels it is his way to be in accord with HIS CREATOR, then I respect his choice. Because believe me, when it is my time to meet my Creator, and the 2 of us look back on my life, I won't GIVE A DAYUM WHAT NO ONE ELSE THINKS OR SAY. It is that simple, be saved or be lost.
