Thoughts on the song "It"?

This is my favorite Prince song. His passion for music is so obvious in his vocal tone, it's what's missing in today's joke of a music scence as far as the mainstream is concerned. I fuckin' love this song.

worship Finally someone eles who sees the beauty of this song. I always thought it was one of the darkest, erotic, interesting songs Prince has ever done. I used to listen to it on my cassette walkman on the city bus, staring out the window dreaming I had a different life. What a great song. biggrin

1 of my favorite songs on SOTT album. It is the shit man. I can relate 2 that song and the lyrics, cuz all I wanna do is do it all the damn time. I love the camile style voice that makes the song that much better, even I'd love the song anyway. This song is the shit man. Sweet as hell.

Thank U

Some people think I'm kinda cute

It's my favorite song on the "Sign O The Times" album. It sounds like the "old Prince".

I LOVE..... "It"!!! in the SOTT movie when it's played together with "Forever In My Life" - yeah, I believe Prince also played "It" incorporated in "Thieves In The Temple" on the D&P Tour?!!! - so f*cking GREAT! cool

It's my favorite song on SOTT too-- at least one of them. People sleep on this song but it's brilliant in it's simplicity. (or something like that). smile

One of my all-time Prince favorites, an immensely underrated gem from Sign. The way the music builds until the release mirrors the sexual imagery/energy the lyrics speak on. The guitar solo, driving beat, vocals/vocal layering and synth are all top notch. My favorite part of this song is when he doubles up on the beat during the refrain, and then drops it out completely after he sings "feels so good must be a crime". This is classic Prince at his simplistic best.

I never understood why so many people felt it was one of the weaker moments on SOTT. I've loved it since first listen! I thought it was brilliant of Prince to use it as the background beat to When Doves Cry is 86 as well.

Historically, a lot of people have slated this track as one of the weakest on SOTT.

After Ballad of Dot, I think a song like this is needed. I think it's perfectly sequenced.

The orchestral stabs are so completely of the time, and it has beautiful pacing, something that people don't often pick up on, pacing is very important.

Then comes the alarm! And Starfish & Coffee, it really is genius! biggrin

its an interesting experiment but as a song it only holds up because of the inspired vocal.

2nd only to slow love as weakest track on SOTT

Prince fans will always try to find the substance in material like this. Although if almost any other artist did it, it would be panned as 'drivel'. By his standard, there is nothing interesting or inspired about this song. Like a few other tracks on 'Side 2', had it been omitted 'SOTT' would have been a flawless recording.

I think it's great. "It" is awesome fun.

This song rocks headbang

For years,I've always insisted that this should have been a single. It would have been a huge pop hit.I love that hard, pulsating beat.

nod

I agree. Plus, people should listen to this song carefully on their
headphones. Especially the latter part where his voice sounds soooo
distant and far away and distorted. That is absolutely genius. Took
me about 30 listens before I realised it was not just a guitar that
followed the vocal track, but that it was the actual vocal itself..
I read somewhere that he hooked up the mic to the guitar-line-in or
something like that to get that effect.
Anywho very cool song and yes, it fits perfectly in the sequence of
the album just like you said! I wouldn't trade it for any other cut

Funny that u bring this song up, I've been listening 2 it quite a bit the past few days but not the album version, the 1 I like most is from the concert film... more emotion than the album!

Does anyone remember that fanmade remix of this song, that
surfaced after the Rave interviews.
It contained a line Prince said in one of the interviews he
gave for the Rave album

"U can cut that..any way U want 2...it's the Truth"
I liked that remix a lot, but alas, I can't find it no more
