Electric Chair SNL 89 saw the video for the first time today, I have never seen a performance on SNL so cool,The Time sucked in 90. P had the Batman emblem, choreographed guitar jammin, pretty hair flowin. | |

Although I don't have many nice things to say about the 'Batman' album, I have always maintained an appreciation for 'Electric Chair'. In particular, the verse "If a man is considered guilty for what goes on in his mind, then give me the electric chair for all my future crimes". And then the scream, "I'm guiltyyyyy!!".
I love it. I also thought the SNL performance was nice. It came at a time when I belived Prince was quickly fading from public interest. [Edited 7/11/05 13:31pm] | |

Note: The "Electric Chair" performance wasn't just any ordinary SNL performance, it was performed during their 25th Anniversary show, along with other performers, actors, comedians, etc. On the other hand, "Partyup" was performed in 1980 during a "normal" SNL show.  | |

I love this performance!!! I have it on CD, i love how his hair was blowing from the air, and how he was smooth with his timing on the choreography...whoo that man, I love him    I wish he would just go crazy again like he was in those days, not giving a fuck!!!I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. | |

totally co-sign Anxiety....the way he broke the band down with the timing (right B4 "...the music rocked us...") is one of the reasons 4 B, nothing compares 2 a LIVE Prince performance!!!! got special affection 4 the Batman album...wondering if 'the Future' arrives this year  | |

He rocked the shit out of that tune, dunno why he didn't perform it more often after '90. It should have become a rock set staple along side Bambi. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. | |

As for keyboardists, none other than Prince's former crush (Patrice Rushen) was one of the keyboard players. Philip C is NOT in that band (he is a hairdresser who only mimed his parts in Graffiti Bridge b/c Dr. Fink was busy recording samples for the Nude Tour). | |

holy moley, i don't recall patrice rushen playing in that performance! 
fun fact - right around that same time, patrice rushen was also playing keyboard for sandra bernhard's cabaret show in NYC. also in the band was an unknown background singer named tori amos.
no real connection other than patrice (and sandra's tribute to prince at the end of this particular show), but it's the kind of thing that geeks me out. | |
