...after reading the book "Possessed" or any such books...

Did ur perceptions of Prince change after you read any literature showcasing his:

lack of willingness to collaborate (a bit of a hog, yea?)

His often condescending ways towards bandmembers and business associates-- what the fucc?

His juvenile tantrums and disputes with Warner-- im totally unsympathetic to all that slave shit he was talking, while paying his own bandmembers pennies and zero writing and producing credit.

Im really disappointed.
I guess that mystery thats necessary to keep people up on a high pedestal has been tarnished.

shrug

I've read articles before, but the book went much more in-depth, casting P in a different light to me.
He's been humanized, i guess.

Thoughts?question

I had wondered something similar about how Prince was or is with his band members. Something I tend 2 forget and maybe others do 2 is that Prince set out 2 be a solo artist, it was him that had the contract with Warners not his band members even though they were his friends. This was Prince's childhood dream ever since he saw his father perform. As cold as it may sound, it's his music and his career and since he's a 'real' musician and likes 2 perform, he has 2 hire band members 2 do live shows.

if prince was a solo artist why did he need other people's idears for the album? its much deeper then some of you'll are willing to admit..id recommened checking out our associated artist section and www.housequake.com for the reality of prince's "written, arranged and produced by prince" monicure....

you'll be amazed at the reality...

I know his band members contributed a lot, especially Lisa, Wendy and Dez. And it is messed up that he didn't give proper credit but that's in part because of his own hang ups (not 2 say that it's ok). In fact, after reading the different books about him I started 2 realize that he isn't quite the 1 man army the media made him out 2 be. And that's probably what Prince tried 2 hold on and live up 2. I honestly think that some of the events that happened in his chidhoood caused his control issues.

After reading that book, even if only a 1/4 th of it was true, then Prince can be an asshole. Which proves that he's only human like the rest of us.

Just because we admire an artists' work, it doesn't necessarily mean that the person who created them is especially admirable or without faults. In many cases, great art has come from people who you probably really wouldn't want to know personally.

I'm reminded of a story I read once : in the mid-1960s, a fanatical Bob Dylan fan met his manager Albert Grossman. The fan told Grossman " Bob is my idol. I worship him, and have to meet him ". To which Grossman replied, 'Believe me, you're better off just listening to the records"

it's about time someone told these prince walks on water people something. lol

I'm not saying prince is some kind of milli vanili. anyone that has seen him perform live would agree to his talents. However, with so many people miscredited and so much mystery surround his conduct as a composer, makes me question just how much of his music is his. and how much of it he pick up in a jam sessions etc. with others. I'm not one to believe just anything i read. But when 3,4,5.... people or saying I did this and didn't get credit it for it. it raises questions in my mind

and before some ass gets on here and says it. I AINT HATEIN.

every artist has a bad side. don't see why folks don't figure that out without having to be told, therefore they get shell-shocked upon finding out.

Good Question! Actually no! I kinda already knew that he was a sexist, chavanitic, womanizer and he could kinda act like a baby at times. I guess just beinga Prince fan for a long time and reading things, hearing stories about him and most importantly just experiencing his work gave way to what his personaltiy seems like.

I think he told Matt Lauer last year that "People who know my work know me" and after reading Possessed that just comfirmed to me that my perception of him was not that far off.

But you know what, everybody has a dark side and to me Prince's positive qualities far outweigh his bad side. I think he is good person actually deep down...just terribly insecure and sensitive. Which I think is the reason his ego gets out of control at times. He has alot of other beautiful qualities too that Possessed doesn't touch on that much. biggrin

There are 3 sides to every story.
Your side.
My side .
The Truth.

Possessed, DSMR,Purple Reign, and Prince: A Pop Life all are good books and have factual things about Prince in them ,but they present 1 side of the story.

Prince has not written or authorized any books to be written about him .So his side has not been told.

Hell, the author of Possessed was the lawyer for Uptown when Prince and Uptown was involved in their dispute and he had a major ax to grind .

Where are you ,Alex ???? biggrin

Another thing about this borrowing thing that you are talking about.

Prince has everyone who works for him to sign a contract. These folks gave up creative license when they signed that contract. It's mighty funny that no one makes a fuss until they are ass out.

Another thing . When musicians jam someone always creates a new note or cord that may be added to or subtracted from. It happens all the time.

It is not that deep because we are only hearing one side of the story. There always two sides to everything. Do I think P may have lifted things from his employees? Sure, I could see how it could happen while working on a project. Do I think his employess should have insured that they would receive writing credit before they started working for him. Yes.

If Prince can have people sign confindentialy agreements I am sure a similar contract can be drawn up with the musicians.

As far as everything being written and produced by Prince. Let's be honest it is P putting in the 20 hour days. The guys works his ass off and none of the associated artist have every disputed this.

Even David Z and Bobby Z said everything flowed from him.

Seems to me a lot of associated artist did not look out for themselves, have not done to well, and or extremly bitter.

Well how come Dr.Fink sings P's praise in DMSR and Possesed. He never has anything bad to say and how come he did not complain at the time.

"only till the npg days were peopel required to sign a contract.."

They should have asked for a contract to make sure they got paid for their work. People need to take responsibility. In addtion, I remeber Dr.Fink talking about a 1 million dollar bonus after the PR tour. Sounds like people were compensated.

the point is that there is no point..we are all just friends wasting time pontificating on everything and nothing.....if you read the comments (without biases) you will notice i was just responding to a statement made by someone else..and that was the end of it..if i had more to share, i would have posted it.

nod Is having sex with 500 or even 1000 women in your lifetime as bad as murdering someone? I don't think so. If Prince did have sex with half the country who cares? That doesn't make him a bad person. That is one thing I always respected about him...he is always tries to be the best person he can be...so what if he has an over active libido? There are worse things...and it sure contributed to his music for the better! biggrin
