Yes,DavidEye-it counts,LauraRichardson will probably turn a blind eye to the facts that we are giving her,but-so what!she obviously lives in "LauraLand"...
We have given many examples here of "black" artist's that were played on MTV before MJ.
Remember Eddie Grant,MTV played the hell out of "Electric Avenue" and "Killer On The Rampage" at least a year and a half before they added "Billie Jean" to the rotation.

Nope.

Not true. Electric Avenue didn't chart til May of 83 while Billie Jean was charting in January of 83.

I think there is a lot confusing going on with "1st played" and "Rotation." MJ's Billie Jean was the 1st video by a black artist to air on MTV. "Rotation" and all that other stuff is something different.

Billie Jean was not the 1st video by a "black artist" to air on MTV.
Some of us have given examples of other "black artist's" that had their video played on MTV before Billie Jean.
Billie Jean may have been the 1st black video to be put into rotation at MTV,but-not the 1st by a black artist to be played at MTV.

Until someone can give PROOF other than "I remember seeing so and so" then it remains to be Billie Jean. I presented proof on my side but I can't go off people saying "I remember seeing..." as proof.

Are you happy now!!. Please go back to wallysafford land at anytime.

If you need more proof pick up the book written by Walter Yvankoft ( I know I spelled the last name wrong) He was the CBS president who forced MTV to put Billie Jean into rotation.

Yeah,I own it,doesn't say much about MTV air dates for any video other than Billie Jean,so-You still have not come up with any solid proof for your argument...

DSMR came long before TTT so it is no way any song they had could have been "riped off" by Prince.

TTT had 2 albums.
Prince is a RRHOF member, had the #1 album,#1 pop song ,#1 R&B song ,& #1 album at the same time .Prince had a top 10 song for 10 years straight. Prince was the first Black singer to have a video on MTV.Prince was .....

TTT will be telling their grandkids that Prince wanted them to play in his band.

Respect, But I guess you really don't no that much about TTT...Raphael get's a lot of props in the industry as a writer/producer (too much to name...google it...) That guy is very underrated...His shit with TTT is good, but his solo shit is better than anything Prince has put out in the last 15 years....That said, Prince is still on the Mount Rushmore of music royalty...But that doesn't diminish TTT's talents...

Thanks for acknowledging that that Prince is not the only one with talent out there!
I swear they need to have a last call for that Purple Koolaid! There are so folks definitely DRUNK on the Purple Koolaid! drink

Co-Sign. I am not going to waste my time talking a newbie who does not know how old DMSR is. TTT were in JHS when that song came out. I guess they jumped on a private plane a flew to Minn after gym class. (LOL). I come to the this board for the laughs.

It was Party Up. Morris said that Prince offered him $10,000.00 for the song or he offered to get him a recording contract. Morris took the contract.

Morris has told this story many times.

I am crushed to find this out.

I LOVE Party Up.

I consider it the start of Prince's socio-political persona. He has no social messages before it (except for Uptown on same album).

I will never get over this. sad

True, but can't that be said for books as well? But here's more proof:

Then I need your proof. I've shown you 3 proofs and you've shown me a book but no excerpt from the book proving your side. Show and prove, that's what it's all about.

Listen I have been a Prince fan for about 23 years so I dont have to drink "kool-aid" to be on this site. Some of you come here to dreg up negativity regarding Prince and when you get set straight you get offended.

MJ gets credit for the first Black artist to be played on MTV.I thought it was Prince then MJ.This will all be determined by which source you use.
