New Power Soul re-released on Sony?

Hi,

just saw on www.sonymusicstore.com that P's NewPowerSoul record was available for buying there, with label=LEGACY, and release date of 10 May 2005. In general, I think on that site are only artists from Sony-related labels displayed. From Prince you only get Musicology and NPS. Anybody knows about this? Has this been discussed before

Yes, I saw the re-releases in the shops. Funny that NPS had a generic title sticker up top that said: "Prince - New Power Soul!" They also had Chaka's Come 2 My House and 1999: the New Master, all re-issued. I guess when Sony Music bought out BMG they inherited all of Prince's indy stuff that was distributed by BMG internationally?

Remember, music is about personal enjoyment not just artsy conceit. NPS is not a masterwork, but it is a good dance floor savvy, enjoyable disk. Tom Moon was right when he said that NPS was better then Maxwell's Embrya, because NPS just took itself less seriously. For a radio friendly dance disk, it is quite good and I am glad that I have it in my collection.

Whats the big deal? They have every right 2 rerelease it if they want. Its not his best work as a whole, but there r some very good songs on that disc. If people don't like the disc they have every right not 2 buy it.
