Why Diehard (ie, Do Or Die Fans) Should Appreciate the Fairweathered Fans...

To all the Prince SuperUsers of the org:

ie:

Remember this: If we werent around...Prince would have sold a crap load less albums over the past 10 years...

I liked EWM, though I never ventured in to P&R or engaged in active debate with him--seems, he's like a lot of us--we KNOW we're right, but he was just more agressive about making it known. shrug

My problem with EWM was that he sported the wrong haircut.

Something like this takes years off his appearance:

hmmm. This is my favorite thread in the last month. nod

umm..ya know what, im still not 100% sure what went down..i mention him because he got a lot of flack for being opinionated about prince lack of quality of late....actually, i didnt even think of EWM when i created this thread..but he does symbolize the "extremes" of a fairweathered fan....and well, maybe if the Org SuperUsers realized that fairweathered fans have purpose in the prince world, they wont be so jaded when dealing with them..

I could be unjustly lumping him in with the "Prince should bring back the Revolution and make PR II" folks. wink

Well, I'm just going by sosgemini's comment above...if something happened, I missed it too but I haven't seen any posts from him for awhile.

cha know what? thats an Org SuperUser misrepresentation...When people say they want to be challenged by Prince's music (like they used to be) SuperUsers automatically throw out that "the revolution is dead" bullshit....its not fair to those people though because all they want is music that challenges them..it could sound totally like something the complete opposite of the revolution sound...

its a very Karl Rove-like tactic...

I like every here like buttered popcorn, but I am confused at this thread. Are we praising the UberFans cause they want Prince to reinvigorate them with experimental new music, or are we condemning them ?

There's no doubting the fact that Almost everyone here will jump out their Calvin's for a new record, and the detractors will be waiting to trash it. Which way shall we go ( I am confusing myself now ) ?

falloff

im trying to get the UberFans to understand that there is a place for all types of fans in the prince world...even those who are waiting to trash an album..

cause in the end, they are helping support prince's career by buying the shit...even if they dont like it. which utimatly results in prince being allowed to make... "gasp"....more albums..

I hear what you're saying...I just made the comment cuz I do recall folks literally saying he should get back together with the Revolution, etc.

I think many/most of us would appreciate something challenging from Prince...though I might not like or listen to it as much as other things he's put out over the years. For example, I think it's cool he did some of the less mainstream stuff that he did in recent years, but I'll also say that I still listen to some of the older stuff a lot more than TRC, N.E.W.S., etc. Hope I'm making sense, I should have gone to bed hours ago! nuts cool

I don't have a problem with fairweather fans, except when they chime on on shit they know absolutely NOTHING about and stick to their guns when you point out their flawed statements. Furthermore, they generally do not have a deep appreciation for or understanding of the music. But then again, I actually get into things I take an interest in so these feelings are not limited to Prince. Fairweather fans are like society in general, they never TRULY appreciate anything.

nod very true--it's even more bothersome when they don't wanna be schooled on anything after you correct 'em on whatever factual error they've made.

You hit the nail on the head!

thats a whole different subject (and thread for that matter)..

what im talking about are the people who buy prince albums and then share an opinion that is negative of the music.....

you cant be wrong with your own opinion....

now, if someone wants to claim that prince never had a top ten hit..well, thats something totally different...but if someone wants to claim that prince wasnt the most creative artist during the 80's..well, Org SuperUsers, you cant claim he was cause thats just an opinion....and opinions cant be fact.
