Have you ever listened to a Prince song, thinking it's great, and then a lyric in it takes you out of it? I hate when that happens so much.
Like when I remember first hearing We Can Funk. The song's funky and I'm loving it, when all of a sudden I hear... "I'll gladly pee in anybody's cup"" And just like that I'm taken out of the song. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.
"You still wanna take me to prison...just because I won't trade humanity for patriotism."

Rhyming "river" with "give 'er" in Holy River.
"I'll show my *, if you show your *" with those cheesy synth noises inserted in Insatiable.

I love funny, weird lyrics too. Like, I LOVE Scarlet Pussy. But...pee? C'mon Prince, we know you can write wittier stuff than that. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

"I'll show my *, if you show your *" with those cheesy synth noises inserted in Insatiable.

I've never really liked the verse in "Call My Name"
So many speak of the moon As though it had no flaws But 2 compare it 2 a beauty like Urs Would give one pause It just sounds really stupid rhyming had no flaws with give one pause. I don't know maybe it's just me, but I just couldn't imaging going up to a girl and saying "Hey baby, you give me pause"... Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

If George Clinton weren't saying that then I might feel the same. As far as I'm concerned, that's just Prince's nod to his old school funk idol. Now if that was Joni Mitchel on saying that then

If she's college educated and mature, she's going to take that as a very romantic comment.

I'd have to say "Baby Knows"... it's a real groovy track, but then he gets to a point where he says...
"She makes you feel like your stuff ain't brown" What f*** is that all about? Yuck. Come here, babe.. yeah...

how does that not rhyme? OK, I meant the way it's forced to rhyme by dropping the 'h'. Didn't know Prince had any Cockney blood in him. [Edited 7/4/05 1:04am]

Probably the weakest lyrics ever:
"Round and Round"(if you count it as a "real" P song): "One day I'll make it in the big city and I will find a girl who's pretty one day I'll make a plan and she will say o.k. 'cuz I will plan 2 be a cool kiddie" What the f...??? (Sorry if the citation is imprecise, I'm at work and can't look it up right now)

Noone I know has ever spoken about the moon having no flaws. I can't relate to this at all. Maybe if a few people I knew had spoken to me about the moon and it's lack of flaws I'd appreciate these sentiments. Although the clumsiness and cheesiness of these lyrics do give me pause.

There must be a lot of Prince songs you can't relate to then. I don't mean to take the p*** but would that really ruin your enjoyment? When did you last have a conversation with one of your mates about pearls before the swine?

You gotta have a mother for me now move your big ass round this way so I can work on that zipper baby. Tonight your a star and I'm the big dipper. "Gett Off"
I must admit it's fun to say especially with the music breakdown, but it's kind of chessy. SO WHAT IF WE'RE CONTROLLING ALL THE OIL, IS IT WORTH THE CHILD DYING 4?

I always thought that was a bad line, along with the next, it seems like he's forcing rhymes: "Nothing about you is false" you bring me gifts like Santa Clause/ touch me with your paws/ now take off them draw's... Diamonds & Pearls has some of the worst lyrics ever. Check this song out at:

Diamonds & Pearls has some of the worst lyrics ever. Well; people are always refering to how beautiful the moon is on a clear nite. He's saying her beauty makes him stop whatever he's doing when he sees her. Very poetic, in my opinion. Kinda like in Adore when he says "love is too weak to define just what you mean to me". Has the same effect.

Has the same effect. My problem with it is not so much the words/meaning as it is how the rhymes sound kind of forced. And actually, he's saying that the comparison to the moon would give one pause, not that looking at her gives one pause. So, in other words, people might not be able to decide right away whether she or the moon is more flawless. I know my girl's got way less pockmarks than the moon & her tones are far more even Check this song out at:

I've been hearing that wrong all this time?!?! it's not the first time someone misheard/misquoted a Prince lyric. C'mon people, CATCH A CLUE! He wrote it with George Clinton, who fronts the band Parliament, which is where the "P" (NOT PEE) reference comes in. "I'd gladly P in anybody's cup.
