I like the song but it's just a little bit tainted by the fact that it was the wrong single to release from the album. "Gold" would have been a better first single but in the end it wouldn't have mattered because the album's promotion was dead in the water. A real good album but such a bitter time business-wise for the man. All good things they say never last... | |

it is a prince classic....anybody who has been with someone and been cheated on will fully understand this song.....the conflicting emotions that run through your head when you are in that position are fully realised in this brilliant prince track.....  ...now i want to dig out the maxi single and play it your cheeky monkeys  | |

This is one of my all time favorites. It was the first CD I ever bought! I had some guys clown me at school becuz of this song. They didn't get the song and they thought Prince was crazy. They were like, does he love the girl, or does he hate her. Becuz of this song, they went to see Prince with me a couple years back! I'm back!!!!!!! | |

Amazing song. I will NEVER forget the "war" that ensued between the local radio stations here in 1995 when "I Hate U" came out. Actually, if I remember correctly, it was leaked prematurely to the radio stations, and none of them were supposed to play it. But one of them did, and then the others followed suit, with the excuse "shit, if that other station's gonna break the rules and play it, so will we"
And I also remember the RESPONSE it got when they DID play it, on 95.5, it was like the #1 song on that station for a long time before TGE came out. People kept calling and requesting it, they were going bonkers for that song. | |

This is one of my fave also. It brought me back to Prince after losing interest post PR.
and Eye Hate U, made me buy my go out and start buying ALL of Prince's CD's. My favorite part, when he whispers "I love you". I was listening with my earphones on the first time I heard that, and I admit it, if he did that to me in person with those gorgeous eyes, the next thing I would know, my panties would be under the bed some place.
