Good Love appreciation thread My god this song is GREAT! You know even though I am not that huge of a fan of Prince using Camille for If I was your girlfriend (I think he should have sung it like he did on Sign of the Times the movie) alot of songs Camille did I have come to realise I LOVE!!! It is so classic eighties Prince! Good Love is such a cool song. More people need to listen to this!

Cool, fun song...one of my faves on the CB set. "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

Cool, fun song...one of my faves on the CB set. The version of Good Love on the CB-set is an edit of the original release (which is from the "Bright Lights Big City" soundtrack) One of the many reasons the Crystal Ball set is such a disappointment

Good Love rocks. Still don't understand why Gustav Mahler is namechecked but who cares. This is one of those songs where P just sounds like he is having FUN. It perks me up everytime I hear it. All good things they say never last...

A perfectly crafted pop song, shamefully ignored as a potential hit. it's as good as any single he's put out since Lovesexy. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

That used to baffle me too, until I actually heard Gustav Mahler's No 3. A portion of Mahler's composition is incorporated into Good Love in Prince's electro-purple style.

Good love had me dancing whenever I heard it on the radio. I'd always shout "Gustav Mahler jammin on the box' out in public in San Francisco and watch people give me funny looks.

Wow I NEVER heard this on the radio! I grew up in San Francisco from till 1986, and the local stations always played the latest Prince tunes. Good Love was on the Bright Lights Big City movie soundtrack, so it got pretty generous airplay. Those were the days...

Apple pie kisses.....wtf? Dude, it's "cherry pie, apple kisses." If you're going to dis the lyrics, at least transcribe them correctly. If I ever took the time to ponder lyrics like those, BTW, I wouldn't like half of Prince's catalog.

I loved this when it came out in 87 or 88, its hard for me to listen to now, I guess because of an ex girlfriend

Now I understand that lyric at least. Technicolor children in Piccadilly Square...anyone care to explain? All good things they say never last...

About the Gustav Mahler reference in this song i have read the following in interview articles:
- Jill Jones has said that Princes favorite classical composers were Igor Strawinsky and Gustav Mahler... - Levi Seacer JR said that in the period Batman and Graffiti Bridge were recorderd Prince often used samples of Gustav Mahler in his songs. He comprimised this samples so they became barely recognisable. Alltough i am not very familiar with Mahlers music, i think that the instrumental part near the end of Good Love (at least, the version on the Bright Lights, Big City soundtrack) contains such a sample.
