Am I the only person who enjoys this movie?

I like the Graffiti Bridge movie too. I especially like the scene with Morris Day, Jerome Benton and Ingrid Chavez, when Morris Day asks where Ingrid got her ass from, and Ingrid replies "Some place you got your manners!" LOL!! Prince looks hot in that movie, loved the long hair and beard he wore back then. love love

Ummm...I'd have to watch it again. I saw it once and never picked it up again. But I'm also willing to give it another try sometime soon...perhaps today! wink

AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

I never want to see that movie again! I remember seeing a trailer for it before the release and it contained much more Morris and The Time ish. It looked pretty cool, but after waiting a year for the UK video release it seemed that the movie had been completley re-edited and made "safe".

Start talking about "Under the Cherry Moon" and we have got a hot topic!

It is definitely a great CD. I hope that goes without saying smile Culled from some classic vault tunes, collaborating with George Clinton, masterpieces like Question of U and Joy in Repetition...this CD was a real landmark in my appreciation of his music.

As for the movie, i suppose I can see why many dislike it. It's terribly cheezy, but if one can't handle Prince being cheezy I'm sure they're often disappointed in him. It's a simple story with a message though, told in broad strokes through great music. I dig watching Prince's spiritual development...which may be why I am among the apparently few who enjoy this film.

His fashion sense in those days was also just too funky smile

'Graffiti Bridge' was a mess.I remember the Entertainment Weekly critic complained that "the movie can barely muster the energy to get from one scene to the next".That about sums it up.The film is simply a bore. The storyline/plot is paper-thin,the set design looks cheap, the acting leaves much to be desired, and Prince does nothing but pout and walk around looking like an abandoned puppy.

Having said that,I must admit there are a few good scenes.Prince's performances of "Elephants & Flowers" and "Tick,Tick,Bang" are exciting.Of course,The Time kicks ass whenever they are onstage for their numbers. If Prince had hired a skilled director and someone to help him write a better, stronger script, this film may have had promise.

I loved the CD, but the while I love watching Prince on screen, I just can't sit through this movie. Can't stand Ingrid Chavez's character. I'm slightly embarrassed to say that I almost cheered when she "departed."

Now I just skip to selected scenes from it -- can't watch the whole thing.

seriously everytime i watch it my mind is on replay persiting to nag that the STOP button is 'just around the corner' ... damn ... what a ride that movie is, all i know is that i make sure all my doors are closed when its on so i dont disrupt the neighboors with my volcanic laughter hehehe ... boy does it demonstrate the height of confusion people can feel ... it does have a message but to get into it all would take hrs of prep and sanity deconstruction ...

actually i never know what to think of it ... except thank God prince and his cute creative self is in it otherwise ... it would be out my window and well on its way to its new home; the how u say, garbage dump wink

What if he had broadcast this, like "The Beautiful Experience", "Love 4 One Another", etc.? Those appear to have a plot of some sort, but don't seem to be held accountable to their holes or absurdity. What if this had been released as the assembled videos of the album, like the "Diamonds and Pearls" set or "3 Chains of Gold"? Again, same arguement (although the Diamonds and Pearls are simply thematic and don't claim to have a real plot).

Is this so harshly criticized simply because he managed to get it released on the big screen?

Well, if it had not been released in theatres, then really only die-hard fans would have known about it, so it would have been less publicly criticized. (Although arguably even though it was a movie theater release, still only fans and movie critics seem to know about it.) But I don't think it would have better received by the fans really unless it was truly chopped down to the performance pieces. In fact --- I'd love a version like that myself. Although thankfully I have it on LD so I can at least skip chapters.

I didn't like her much either, and I didn't get the sense that there was any chemistry between her and Prince also.

i liked the movie, too.i saw it in the theatre about 4 times.i remember the 1st time i went to go see it,i said to myself i better get there early so i can get a good seat, when i got there ,there was no long lines and maybe only a quarter of the seats were occupied.it only stayed at the 1st rate theatre's for about 1 week in my state,i actually drove to the next state over to see it again the following week, then later it came back to my state in one of the cheap theatres for a couple of weeks.i was really surprised when i didn't see crowds.and yes i forget who said it earlier, but prince did look really good in that movie:-)

lol ... play on sister ...

Okay okay eye didnt mean to be the archetypal bimbo with that ‘face value’ statement ... sincerely there is so much more to P than the outer shell aka arrow 'his cute self' (i cant believe i mentioned that either) ... i simply found the movie invariably pathetic due 2 the fact that I felt it didnt really elevate what unblemished creativity he had/has 2 offer ... 2 be objective in my own means, it just doesnt fit in any square of his pattern of illustriousness ... exclaim

The scene in which Prince performs "Tick Tick Bang" cracks me up! While Prince's band is jamming, Jerome is deep into his Gameboy game...the quick shot of Jimmy Jam with his fingers in his ears...lol...and the "BEAT ME" on Prince's chest! lol ...hilarious... biggrin

This coming from a guy who still defends "Under The Cherry Moon", "Graffiti Bridge" really sucked major ass.

What the hell was it about? I was happy when the chick ate it. Just simply a horrible movie.

The soundtrack is another story...

The album 'Graffiti Bridge' is, I think, possibly the most underrated of Princes albums and should've been marketed better cuz is could've been a BIG hit.

The film had some superb Prince moments too.

The Morris, Jerome and Aura 'Bridge' scene - "where d'you get dat ass?"

The performance of "Tick, Tick, Bang" - wudda made a great music vid'

And some others...which...go without saying...confused
"...because no-one gets there alone." - "...I like the floor. It's the only thing that seems real."

It took a minute of thinking what it would be like to actually see that on MTV, but yeah, I think it would have been pretty cool. Freaky, Funky, that's some good Prince. Always one of my favorites too.
