Hi, Im a reasonably new fan of Prince, and get lost on a lot of the threads here at the .org. Just thought you might like to hear how I became a huge fan. It started off badly, I got "the very best of prince", u know, the greatest hits collection most of u guys hate. I got it on a whim, and partly because i was listening to alot of early 90s music and loved "gett off". That was about three years ago,and while most fo u guys hated that album it got me hooked, so it can be seen as a good thing in some ways. since then I have amassed 20 solo albums, 94 east thingy, the old "minneapoliss genius" cd, a cd of an interview from 1980 or so, that crappy "maximum prince" docu-cd and the even crappier "party o the times" cd. I also have "purple rain", "under the cherry moon" and graffitti bridge on dvd. And the sign o the times concert movie and prince and the revolution live in 1985 on vhs. yup, im addicted. Even as a 21 year old who shud be into what, I dunno, eminem, avril lavigne and shit, I just thought u should know that Prince is still totally affecting and influencing younger generations. Just wondered if there other fans on here my age an stuff. actually, ive had so many tangents in this post im not sure what the point is. Ok, how and when did u become a prince fan?> and, is there anyone round my age on here? heehee. I need to lie down.

I'm 26 and I got into Prince when I was 5 after hearing When Doves Cry and really liking it. I was more into Michael Jackson but Prince was as intriging to me as MJ, actually he struck me more mysterious than MJ. I got my first Prince album at 7 with the Parade album (thank you Mom ) and then I became a die-hard at 12 in 1991. I've been a die-hard since then and it keeps getting better and better. It's great that you've joined the "Purple Crew" as I call us. Hope you continue to dig da man!

When I was 5 Prince helped me realize how much I love dick. When I was 12 he helped me learn how to give myself an orgasm.

I've always liked prince....Like since i was 4.....But the song "call My Name"
is what made me become a fan!!!!

I became one in the summer of 1984. (I was 9 going 10). I was almost glued when I seen the video "When Doves Cry." I the part when Prince in the hot tub... I almost drool After that. Thing will never be the same!!!!

I m a fan since 1991. At the time i was very interested in MJ because we got MTV, and there were specials about him so they showed every of his famous videos. But at the same time there was prince and his cool videos-->cream, d+p, gett off...! the firt thing what i started to love was prince- dancing--> the splits. After seeing some of his coolest vidoes on MTV i bought D+P in poland( i come from poland and live since 1989 in Germany ) for about 0,5 dollar (i was not orginal ). then came purple rain and around the world in a day.
But after seing Sign o the times i became a real fan. Sign o the times was my first CD i bought. Now i have everything a princefan should have,Videos, records, CDS, rare concerts.....!

I became a fan in 1982 when i was 10 yrs old. I remember my older brother (13)bought the 1999 tape and was always listening to it with his headphones on, Made me wonder why... Well one day my parents were at work an my bro went out to see a friend. I was alone, and I thought this might be my only chance to listen to it. I was so curious why my bro always listened to it with his headphones on cuz he always listened to everything with his tower speakers. (man i was so envious). so, I gave a listen and couldn't believe my ears when "Let's pretend we're married" came on. Wow... It was my sexual awakening. I had never heard anyone say those kinds of things. At first I thought "I can't listen to this...it's so dirty" but i kept listening. lol, I never stopped. Since I have bought every new tape/CD within a week of its release. Each tape/CD was a whole new experience for me. I remember buying Controversy and Dirty mind right before we took a trip to Germany. I was 11. My first listens were on the plane. Now everytime i hear these two CD's i always think of my family in Germany,and wandering the streets of Berlin, Frankfurt, and ausfriesland with my headphones on singing those tapes to myself. Wow what a trip.

i became a fan last year and am addicted!!!!i've heard him beform ever sience i was really little but i didn't become a huge fan until i saw him perform on the 2004 grammy's.now i'm a prince fanatic!!!!

well i became a fam of P's after i listened to the cd "The Hits 1&2" ever since then i had to have all of Prince's albums. so here iam now collecting all of Prince's cd's.

I was in 7th grade and I heard Controversy on the radio and then later heard Sexuality on the radio...yep that's right.....1981.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I was born into Prince the same way a person is born into a religion. I never got into him, he got into me.

Honestly, it was his 1991 performance at the MTV music awards. There were like 50 half naked people on stage--it was amazing to watch.

Well when I first became a fan I didnt realize who it was that was singing I Wanna Be UR Lover My uncle played it a lot and I really liked it (I was like 8yrs old) Now when I was about 10yrs old (I think ) Do Me Baby came out and honey I So LOVED that song

So I would have to say that the fact that I was well aware of him then, that is when the Epiphany happened

When i heard his 1999 cassette tape. My sister brought it, & she kept telling me how good it was. I decided to finally listen to it. When i did i was blown away by the music. I played it soo much it snapped.

I became a Prince fan when I was 8 (1978). And in Minneapolis at the time, Prince was just blowing up. He had a style that was all his own. Music was different, but it fit the time period; he was doing some Steely Dan, Rolling Stone type music, but it had a nice little R&B groove to it, and people were digging it in MPLS.

After awhile, over the summer of `78, Prince's music started to appear on the radio in MPLS or someone had a copy of music that Prince done and then the rest is history.

So, I have been a fan since 78-79.

I was about 6 or 7 and my mother had a record player. I loved music in general. I would always beg her to play Prince songs. She taught me how to use a turntable and it was on from there.

Oh yeah..I'm not a "fan". I am a lover of music.
