You missed the point then.

It will have been worthless if the G8 leaders avoid taking decisions on debt, climate, trade and arms sales hat lead to chances for greater prosperity for people of Africa.
.

I understand that. But that in addition to the donation of money would've done more the people in Africa IMO

Hey listen, amigo. I don't doubt had reasons for not participating (if he even was invited).

I think we mostly disagree on the scope and scale of his depth and impact, as opposed to his talent and sincerity.

If only he had played the show and performed Starfish & Coffee. With a grand NPG makeover, which includes, horns galore, and a crazy solo drums.

Perform the 1 song. Then walk off stage in classic Prince fashion. ^-^

Oh that would have been so great. confused

I think it just comes down to the fact that they didn't even think to ask Prince to play.

He isn't in the limelight these days, he doesn't have high-profile records and let's face it, outside of Prince fans like the ones to be found on the Org, no one really gives a toss about him any more. Whether you think that is fair or not is another matter, but I have yet to see any proof that the wider world of music considers Prince to be anything other than an influencial artist from yesteryear.

No 1 tour in the USA-2004
Opened thye Grammy's (blew the crowd away)-2004
Introduced to the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame (in first year of eligability)-2004
100 rdth studio album charts all over the world-2004

Ye he is definately out of the limelight buddy! He is so out of the limelight that when he appears at any event he is treated like royalty (no pun intended). One last point if he is an artist from yesteryear why do I hear the influence of Prince all over today's airwaves??

All good points. Maybe I am looking at this from a UK perspective - I would certainly say that over here Prince's profile is as low now as ever before.

And your last sentence is contradictory, how can you be an influence if you aren't from yesteryear? confuse
I never said he wasn't influential, I agree that now more than ever his styles are being ripped off and borrowed left, right and centre. However, as far as the UK is concerned, his new music sinks without a trace. I am in no way criticising Prince or his music, just trying to keep a realistic sense of how he is viewed, in the UK at least.

I was at the Live 8 concert in London, and I would have loved to have seen Prince perform there.

Im with you on the UK thing (im in Scotland) but remember the people in the 'serious' music world (UK included) know he is still the real deal, dont take our chart shows and so called music radio stations as a guideline!! This country and its bubblegum pop, boybands, girlbands and suit produced non entities respects trivia over talent, at the end of the day and when all is said and done a genius is a genius and brilliant music is still brilliant even if most are not listening, there is none as blind as those who will not see.

I don't know what makes you think that Prince is miles better than the rest. He is not. To say so is actually quite arrogant. He is still up there with the best, but it's not like there is no one as good as him - there are some sharp bands out there.

Stop worshipping and open your heart and ears smile

Are you telling me that you know my mind better than me? Okay I submit to your line of logic so now please tell me who I think is better than Prince!!

Is expressing your opinion considered arrogant? If so what would you call imposing ones own thoughts on others?

Where did I imply that I know your mind? Maybe my English is not so good...I guess you are truly convinced that Prince is better than all the rest, so here's to you!

But: I choose to disagree. In general, I feel that Prince has lost a bit as a performer, but the last show I saw was the One night only tour (I live in Europe, so no musicology for me - maybe he improved again). That ÓNO show lacked in drama and consciceness - I am comparing it with LoveSexy tour, which I liked much better. Just my humble opinion

It is too bad that P did not take the Musciology show to Europe. You guys are never going to know just how incredible those shows were. Trust me P is at the top of his game and only a handful of artist are on his level.

If I was not a hard core fan I would still say pound for pound he is in the top 5 greatest live performers of all time.

How is being one of the few artists to address the treatment of certain people after 9/11 irrelevant? he was both praised and criticized for the video? it made several headlines across the globe. that IS relevant. perhaps just not the content you would like him to address, but relevant nonetheless.

Is he one of the "few" artists to address 9/11 and Arab-based racism? Really? hmmm I disagree. The CG video was clumsy and came off as a cry for attention.

The point remains that Prince has a long history against doing group appearances. He prefers to dictate the terms of his participation. People decry that kind of stance as egoism run amok for a reason.

-----
"clumsy and came off as a cry for attention.' He had a sold-out tour he did not really need to do a video for attention. I really think anybody who thinks it was clumsy fails to deal with the racism that is out of control after 9/11.

I am sure if he puts something out this year or next it would make sense to start in Europe. After all you can only tour the US so many times before you burn people out. I could see him taking a break from the US for a while.

Oh, I know about post-9/11 racism, as well as that which preceded 9/11. Hey, CG always seemed contrived to me. But, that's my opinion. Thanks, Laura.
