Interestingly, the version of "Leaving For New York" that is circulating on boots such as Studio Nights et al is Prince's home demo of the song, and not the studio recording.

I have a demo version of this song. I really like it, he should have released it. He desperately needs to release the Grand Progression, that's another great song that deserves to be heard. [Edited 7/4/05 11:41am]

I do own this set, and Revelations 2.1 There does excist some discussion if it's really a Prince track, or somesome was just trying to fool us ... I don't know!

[Edited 7/3/05 21:01pm] You're not gonna believe this but you for a while you could listen to a sample of it on MTV.com cuz that's where I heard it for the first time. You type in Prince and click on all his albums and they had some unofficial albums, The Work was one of them. When you clicked on it you could hear samples of the songs for about 30 seconds and that's when I heard Leaving for New York. It is a pretty song the little I heard and it does sound like something he recorded at home, but it's definitely him.

Also, I noticed "Sweet Thing" and "Rock Me Baby" are covers, how many more demos of covers did he do? mb

Whoever thinks this song is not Prince is deluding themselves. It's part of the batch of home recordings and demos found on a copy of Owen Husney's tape. These later surfaced on "Studio Nights", then on stuff like "The Work". . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

mb No. The title is tentative and could actually be called "Rock Me Lover". . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."
