Parade is a very cool album some classical, jazzyful,R&B beats. I think that there is a lot of good songs on that album. I hope U enjoy it.

Probably my 2 favorite Prince CDs...certainly the ones that felt the most groundbreaking in terms of creating his own sound

Funny that you'd get to listen to both of these albums for the first time at the same time. When Parade first came out I remember a lot of critics saying that Prince had returned to the raw funk of Dirty Mind. Can you sense any similarities? To me, maybe with "New Position" and "Kiss"

Both amazing, but very different from one another. DM is sexier, and has a gritty sound to it. Parade is lighter and definately fun.

Dirty Mind is my favorite Prince album of all time. Parade's pretty good but it ain't got that raw funk feel that i love, like dirty mind does...don't know why critics said it did.... some of it's a bit too jazzy and orchestral for me.. still wicked tho.

Parade is a strong album, if not a tad overproduced. I like the minimalist approach of Kiss and New Position and dare someone not to perk up when Mountains comes on (I love the whole song but the first thirty seconds or so are the best part of the song). Life Can Be So Nice, Anotherloverholenyohead (horrible title but great old school soul) and the slightly overrated but still good Sometimes it Snows are also favorites. I'm not crazy about Christpher Tracy's Parade and Do U Lie may be one of the most boring songs he ever produced. I also never really got the appeal of Girls and Boys. Overall, the album belongs just below the cannon of "great Prince albums" in my book.

Dirty Mind is raw and a tad dated but filled with bits of brilliance. It is the first album where it seemed like Prince was trying to create the persona of Prince and not just making music. The ambisexual punk funk revolutionary rebel was born on this album and that is why the album will always be an important one. Strongly recommend for historical perspective but also because it is a pretty freaking good record.

"Dirty Mind" is one of the best Prince albums of the 1980s and "Parade" is one of the worst.

Parade is one of my favorite Prince albums. Its astounding that the same musician that made something as electronic and sonic as 1999 would release Parade a mere 4 years later. Paradeis a lush and inspired album that combines so many forms of music into 40-plus mins. I have recently gained a new appreciation for Dirty Mind. I always loved this album, but I never realized the genius he packed in 30mins of music. His rhythm guitar playing on the first two tracks alone is astonishing. Parade is a great album, and Dirty Mind is a tour de force that shows a budding genius starting is ascent in the music world.

I like them but in my opinion they are a little overrated. At least for me. They are so different I can see how divided people are on them. Dirty Mind sounds very dated but I like the songs. It is just not some of the songs that make me wanna dance around. I'm not saying that it isn't an amazing album but it is kinda like a person in that era putting an old James Brown record. It is awsome but it definatly takes you there to that era. You didn't experience that time first hand so it is not personal...you feel kinda removed from the music.

Parade is intersting....I love many of the songs on the album but alot of the music seems very cold to me and too impersonal if that makes sense. Very intresting but I can't dance to it. It is more for listening I think. biggrin

Dirty Mind is probably one of the dirtiest little albums Prince ever wrote, composed, arranged, and performed. Yes, all of the songs are dated and they are demoes, but you have to admire the production. It's so rough and raw, but the overall album is fresh. The first time I heard sister, it scared the hell out of me. Overall, it's an excellent album.

Parade, on the other hand, is a personal favorite of mine. It was a more accessible version of Around The World In A Day for me. The album as a whole is classy and it is a mix of jazz, european funk, soul that just blends together so smoothly. The production is interesting and very lust. The "expanded" Revolution band is at their best here and Prince, as always is just explosive!

It seems to me that Parade works best as a whole album together more than any of the others except PR. Maybe its because its a soundtrack, so all the songs have related subjects, but somehow it just all clicks.
Dirty Mind is a great album, lots of good tracks, but it doesnt gel together as well as Parade.

eek

Go home, turn off the phone and do not answer the door.

Put on Dirty Mind, and listen to the whole thing three times through.

Clean yourself off (you may want to shower), and do the same thing with Parade.

You will never be the same.

My husband had never been a fan of Prince, he tolerated him, at best. He use to be in the habit of using my portable cd player while jogging. I always would have "Parade" in there and just always assumed he changed the cd, when he used it. Until the day I hear him in the shower singing in the distance....Girls and Boys!!
I have never let him forget this. wink
