No, not really. Until now, I've only thought of Prince as one rock star, a name. Didn't even know he was still making music. I never even knew what he looks like until I was 15-16.

Raspberry Beret was the song that caught me. STILL, I did not pay attention.
I heard of Prince, noticed slightly, I was into other music...thought to myself:"Aahh, we'll see. But "Beret" had me convinced he had something special.
I'm not an "anthem" lover...so Purple Rain bored me quickly. I totally missed Little Red Corvette, which was a big dance tune locally. Upon listening, I thought it was lightweight..but fun, and vowed to keep my ear on him. Madonna came out and cluttered up pop music and it seemed like she furthered the "bastardization"(is THAT a word?) music completely. I became disgusted with much of radio. When Prince showed up in the "assless pants" I figured he's flash in the pan, competing with the likes of Madonna for "stupid popstar tricks" crown, although I kinda liked the sound of some songs I heard (NOT on radio). I heard a wee bit of "Pink Cashmere" somewhere...was speechless. I thought holy cow! This guy's not what I thought...Diamonds and Pearls really tugged at me to spend money. Still, I didn't. It was, believe it or not The Most Beautiful Girl in the World.
Now that's a long time to be convinced..but I called some friends to borrow everything Prince they had. Each laughed and said it's a unique obsession...when you fall for his stuff...you're gone. They were right. I buy now without preview. New Prince disc? I grab it. He's on tv..PERFORMING!? outta my way...GOTTA see Prince and the band..concerts are excellent, worth every dime. Prince is accomplished and always in the end....just outright fun.

I feel pretty embarrassed after your "what the fuck" incident. But I forgive, maybe you both are just a little bit bigot.

rolleyes Whatever. Anyway as I was saying, That assless pants shit is hard to explain to your family while your watching the awards. Their looking at you like so you're a Prince fan huh while his ass is hanging out on the screen. And you're like What the fuck and how and I going to explain this. lol

Yeah. I found that rather difficult to defend.
