I'm kinda torn. On the one hand, I'd have loved the world to get a glimpse of one of the world's greatest performers.

On the other hand, I tend to think celebrities should help charities out in private rather than leaving themselves open to accusations of self-promotion and self-gain. Fact is, put on a good show and their albums go up in the charts. In that sense I'm kinda glad Prince stayed out of it.

totally disagree with that acticle....if you leave it up to politicians alone...f**k all gets done....live aid in 1985 was a failed attempt to do something about seeing children dying of hunger on our tv screens but the problem to too big to be overcome then by mere musicians. the approach this time is the right one and it is already having a positive affect on putting pressure on the g8 to do the right thing and i believe it will help the poorest countries in africa this time.
...
...i have no time people who moan about geldof and the disruption caused by the various marches and concerts going on around the world.
...
...
it is a f**king scandal that in the 21st century, children are still starving to death while most people are better of than they have ever been.....some people have to wake up and realise this and if geldof goes on tv and swears like F**k then good on him.....we should all be ashamed it is still happening.

hey blackbob, i'm feelin' you on this one.....I think events like this raise awareness, but simply don't do a hell of a lot to change the situations on the ground in the places that these singers seem to care so much about. I teach about the very parts of the world that are most impoverished and can tell you that singing a song of sex pence wont't change a damn thing. You're absolutely right, though, about the policymakers who give a lot of lip-service, but precious little in the way of substantive help to the poorer regions of the world. It's a damn shame; it truly is.

cool This is not going to be the same as 1985. It's not really worth watching at all. You can't rewrite history. Prince did not perform for the 1st one. They did show his video (4 The Tears In Your Eyes). So what do you expect from this one??

I'm not surprised he's not participating.
I'm about to pop back over to the concert. I live within walking distance of the concert site. Sooooo many people!!!! My God. eek I've never seen the Paarkway like this.

He should be performing. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. I'm sure he gives on his own and could do without the pub, but after '85's incident, I thought for sure he would make an appearance in Live8. I know I'm gonna get beat up for this, but it's very disappointing he chose to miss this one, too.
