I have done countless surveys of people here and at Housequake.com and even at Princefams.com to find the BEST ten Prince songs ever!!

The following list has taken 13 months to complile...

-Alphabet St.
-Musicology
-Let's Go Crazy
-Purple Rain
-My Name is Prince
-Controversy
-Erotic City
-Bambi
-Sign 'O' The Times
-Raspberry Beret

Any suggestions?... i will finalise the list in a weeks time but i can still make a few changes if you have any good suggestions...

opinions are like elbows,everybody got 'em.
the 10 "best" to you may be the 10 "worst" to another.
list's such as these are not very scientific,they are too confining.
Prince has such a vast catalogue,it would be a shame to narrow it down to a definitive number of his "best" songs.
by the way,you left off When Doves Cry.....

It would be more interesting to compile a list of the most IMPORTANT Prince songs, because then people would have to supply a reason. Mine would go something like, and I'm thinking from a world-wide audience point of view:

Little Red Corvette
1999
(because these 2 paved his way to international success and got him onto mtv)

When Doves Cry (a very experimental hit - because of the lack of a bass line)
Purple Rain (because of the movie success)
Darlin' Nikki (because the 'controversial' lyrics helped to create advisory stickers)

Raspberry Beret (the only real hit from ATWIAD but which managed to continue his presence at the top in pop)

Kiss (a massive hit that kept his career afloat while UTCM the film was a flop)

Sign O' The Times (a great, deep song, great drum machine programming)

Alphabet St. (a cheeky, chirpy, fun hit in the vein of Kiss)

Batdance (a very successful tie-in with a very successful movie - also a very original track)

Gett Off (introduced the world to the more hip-hop orientated Prince of D&P and the Symbol album)

The Most Beautiful Girl in the World (a massive world-wide, independent hit at a time when he wasn't having big hits anymore)

I think that was his last really major song from a world-wide point of view. I couldn't get the list down to less than 12 and I had to miss out Erotic City!

there isn't a single song off of Musicology that belongs on a top ten best Prince songs list. how could anyone say Musicology or If I Was the Man in U're Life is better than Let's Work, or Gett Off, or I would Die 4 U, or anything form his glory days. sure this is a subjective matter, but that's just crazy.
