Empty Room

I LOVE this song! It is so sad though. It makes me almost feel sick though it connects with me so emotionaly. This was inspired by Susannah Melovin right? Didn't he write this back in like 1986?

There r at least 4 known versions :

- 1986 version : never bootlegged as far as i know. so it's unlikely anyone here has ever heard it.
- 1992 version : recorded 4 the "i'll do anything" project. Bootlegged.
- 1995 version : recorded with the NPG, a video was even made 4 it. Bootlegged.
- 2002 version : recorded live during the ONA Tour, & released via NPGMC on the "C-Note" album. Actually the only official release of this song.

Spookymuffin

I listened to his high once, I felt like I was swooping through clouds.

Love the song.

The original is from 1985. And the 1995 version is mostly the backing tracks for it (if not all - this hasn't been confirmed, to my knowledge). The video was just a bunch of random studio clips of Mayte in the angel outfit and Prince in the bathtub.

or as I like 2 call it "The really bad version"...

The good version ('92 or C-NOTE, both r good) is amazing. Shame it was never officially released.

I thought he's performed "Empty Room" several times, including a circulating live version I heard from one of the Celebrations. I like the song when it starts out simple and then builds and builds but is not overdone. Unfortunately, Prince has a tendency to overdo it at times.

Pagey

The only version I own is the C-Note version from the Club. This song just blows me away. I actually added it to my own version of Musicology, in between On the Couch and Dear Mr Man...it flows oh-so-well. My girlfriend refers to the song as her favorite from Musicology and still can't understand why it wasn't on a hit.

It just figures to me that he originally wrote this about Susannah Melvoin...man, he sure wrote some beautiful and gut-wrenching songs about her.
